*** THE OFFICIAL MAX PAYNE 3 THREAD ***

Ive just found the game runs even smoother if tessellation is off. In some busy areas I was getting lag, I can have everything on max settings but turning off tessellation made a huge difference in fps.

Can't believe anyone thinks this game is good, the story is horrendously stupid, and overly long video's between every single stage. For me the worst thing is, all the "cool" stunts, crashing through a window in bullet time while shooting people type bits, diving down a set of stairs in bullet time, they are all "pre done" for you. The few times there is a window to crash through, the game decides its a set piece that must be done for you, it takes away all spontaneous "coolness" by forcing it, and moments where they happen are generally done in a boring way. There are a couple bits like that which are very awesome(and couldn't be done any other way), and many that are boring and simply make me think if they just let me do that myself it would have been cool.

The pure stupidity of what Max/other guys do in every video to get into these situations spoils it for me. At basically every turn there is what an awesome Max Payne would do, then there is what an utter **** tard would do, and the story every time without fail goes the stupid way.

Game play, it all feels so, meh, the AI is stupid, they pop out of entirely predictable places, there are very few moments in real time where I can do a bullet time dive and spin around killing people in a cool way. There's stuff to blow up like cans but you often find them hidden behind walls as you walk through a section AFTER you've killed everyone.

I don't know, I just remember MP1 and 2 having the bullet time a much larger focus and much better situations in which to use it. I think largely because back then the whole cover/shoot thing wasn't so used, here cover/shoot is too important and bullet time much less so. It feels more like a generic very old mechanics shooter with bullet time tacked on to me, rather than Max payne, or a game built and focused on the mechanics of bullet time and setting up area's/attacks/AI-enemy attack style to make bullet time awesome.

The are some really cool moments of awesomeness in this game, on the rooftop level I slow mo jumped down a flight of stairs, shot the guy at the bottom and span round in mid air whilst some guy was right underneath me going up the stairs, by the time he had turned to shoot at me I already had him in my sights and took him out. It was such a cinematic action movie moment, loved it.

Well I was enjoying this until I fired up Steam today which seems to have now decided the game is only 52% downloaded and is downloading the rest again. Strange really, I was playing it last night.

Hopefully my GTX275 can hack this :D Only an 896MB card tho :/

Well I haven't played PC games for months so I've been using Intel HD3000 in my PC for a while. I wanted to play MP3 however so I grabbed an old Radeon 4870 off a mate just to see if it had any chance. Surprisingly it seems to be running at an acceptable frame rate even in 1920x1080 with most settings on high. I'm pretty sure the GTX275 is faster than the 4870 too.

If Steam sorts itself out however then I'll go and buy a proper card.

Not understanding exactly what Max Payne and Bullet Time is all about.

I mean to turn around your statement I can't believe you don't like it what's wrong with you!!!

Loving MP3. Excellent visuals/effects and sublime animation. Gameplay is up there with the past games only way more brutal. Can max the game out at 60 FPS average but I disable MSAA as it has a massive hit on performance. FXAA does the job even if it does slightly blur the game.

Loving it!! Some amazing graphics everything set to max 2560x1440, just wish the story was even longer and all the movies used the ingame engine.

The cutscenes are just fantastic, with sometimes showing the text of speech and slicing the screen into 3 different views. Really loving it :D

So I ran FRAPS to see what frame rate I was actually getting with everything on its highest setting at 1080p (except for MSAA, which I set to 0 in favour of FXAA on VHigh), and I'm getting a solid 60fps. Afterburner was giving a readout of approximately double what my actual frame rate for some reason. I also turned in-game vsync off in favour of using Adaptive Vsync, and it seems to be working flawlessly.

Only up to Chapter 3 so far due to being busy with other stuff, but so far it seems like a good game.
