*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

While there are ways around the issue, that's not the guys point, it's something that should work and doesn't...
IMHO Microsoft have failed on a marketing POV here, advertising the surface as a laptop replacement when all laptops come with a keyboard, surface, extra £100. Then there are simple things like this usb power issue, I wonder if it is something that can be sorted with a firmware update as you see a lot of laptops these days with USB power options in the BIOS..
Look at how they have also changed the pen, the new pen is spot on but really really should be properly capable of clipping to the surface.
The PSU's USB port, given where it plugs in and that we know the power port is so much more, there's no real reason that the PSU can't have its port connectable to the surface.
The pen also, I think it should have a rechargeable battery in it that charges from the port, that way you could store the pen and charge it at the same time...

Those wouldn't be oversights, it'd just be ridiculous decisions. I'm probably exaggerating slightly.
But it's still a massive oversight that shouldn't be happening in the first place. This is the third tablet for christs sake.

Is their other tablets that can even recognise and run an external USB drive in any form?

What's the relevance of that when the Surface 3 is poised to replace a laptop?
And like I say, the Asus T100 (Which can be had for 250) can run and use my Blu-ray drive, costing a third of the price (With keyboard)

Okay....

I think yoru over reacting, like I said, I cant remember the last time I even handled a BR or DVD, or anyone else that uses them now.

What relevance is it that you don't use optical media?

How am I overreacting? I'm annoyed, it's an oversight, the limitation in the USB port has dozens and dozens of threads on the MS Forums because peoples equipment doesn't work "on the go" as it should.

A tablet that costs 250 quid has more expansive USB capacity than my tablet which costs triple price to match the keyboard.

Dell have some new ones coming out about the same specs.

Actually ignore that their screen wont be anywhere near as good lol.

Its prives how MS where right to take things into their own hands in making their own hardware, clearly the the OEM market jsut arnt willing to put the effort in.

But MS could haven't executed any worse though. Their tablet movement is not what one would consider a success.

The whole Windows tablet thing has been dire.

Well they are making money on it at least, according to last figures, they just need to work off the back of the positivity of the SP3 and work on it, theirs not a device like it from anyone else.

It does however work for portable hard drives which is what the majority of people will be using it for.

Or just the digital copies that come on the disc etc.

I find it hard to believe theirs THAT many poeple wanting to carry about an external Drive jsut to playback movies lol, kinda defeats the entire purpose to be honest.
