*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

TO be fair its not just play back of movies etc, there are people out there that have more reason to use a drive, I've got a simple LITEON DVD/RW, I cant even use that as the powers not there, put it into the dock and its fine, USB port however is a no go, I'm due to do a bit of travel at the end of this month and burning ISO's to DVD is a possibility.
So while there are ways around watching DVD's/BR's as well as ways around burning ISO's, that's not really the point...

Or just the digital copies that come on the disc etc.

I find it hard to believe theirs THAT many poeple wanting to carry about an external Drive jsut to playback movies lol, kinda defeats the entire purpose to be honest.

Exactly. Who really carries round DVDs/BDs and a portable Disk player nowadays? I have to say o think I'd laugh if I saw that on the train.

On the other hand someone attaching a portable HDD and watching a film or browsing/editing photos would be normal.

The reality is Martini you really are in the minority, although I do understand your frustration.

I expect I'm in the minority, but even in the comfort of my own home, because I've got a single USB port external blu-ray drive I can't use it on the Surface 3.

And again, not all external drives work.

For the few Blu-rays which do give digital copies, well I guess I can put them on the SD card (But I'd likely get better speeds and quality from a torrent).

I used to be a big pirate, but I've just blasted about 800 quid in Blu-rays, even in my small collection, there's more content there than I could store on my PC in the same quality!

Portable drives are fine, but look at it from a tech POV how many people want to burn disks for whatever reason?

You have to look beyond what Martini wants to use it for, at the end of the day its an underpowered USB port and there are more reasons than just watching BD's for it to be fully powered and very little reason for it to be crippled..

I am furious right now, came home to a small box with little to no protection, not having my original dress box returned and look a the state of this when I lift it out!

I have to wait till morning for support to open up again, so mightly peeved right now.

Looking at the terribly small flimsy box it was delivered in, was deffo a transit UPS smashing did it, lines up perfectly with a small mark on the outside of the box.

Well my case has been now referred to the T3 department, I have a horrible feeling this could become a he said she said argument with UPS.

And I end up being out 1k.

I want to give them the chance to make it right firstly, im not angry, just really disappointed and it sours the whole " getting a new toy" thing.

Weel sure jsut to make things worse, I bought it from eBay, so yea im screwed unless MS the right thing here.
