***The Official MSI 5850 Twin FrozeR Thread***

Anyone elses card make a really high pitched whine on loading screens and menus in games?

Played Crysis, L4D and CoH and on each game I get a high pitched noise from the card. When the game is actually running theres No noise. Weird

I wouldn't worry too much, i think every card I have ever had has done this!! On Different PC's!!

Received this card today but haven't got a chance at overclocking it.
I was able to run heaven benchmark at 1920x1080:
Using 10.12a drivers. May fully delete and clean with sweeper tomorrow and reinstall.
My old 4850 (dx10) = 700 points
New 5850 (dx11) with tessellation OFF = just over 1000 points.
Does this seem right? Those are rough numbers off the top of my head as I am not home right now.

My spec:
P5Q Deluxe
q6600 @ 3.0ghz
4gb ddr-2 800mhz 5-5-5-15
msi 5850 @ stock.

Even black ops on max settings (8AA, full filtering etc) will drop down to 30fps in parts in multiplayer.
Was I expecting too much for it to remain a steady 50+?

Temps are fantastic though!

Blackops is performing weirdly for a lot of people in terms of a crap framerate given how it looks.

First attempt at over clocking this

How do I do stability testing on it though ?

Has anyone had or heard of artifact issues at idle with this card?
I've only had it two days and as soon as the driver is installed the fan ramps upto 3030 rpm and I get artifacts on the screen then after 5/10 mins it will reboot. It's idling at 157/300 and its about 33c.

I've tried different catalyst drivers, uninstalled ati software, deleted the install folders, the ati folder in the profile, rebooted, installed and no joy.

I've done the create and edit the catalyst profile to try and increase idle speeds but I still get the glitch running at 300/575.

I've tried afterburner but that won't affect the 2d speeds even after setting the profiles and changing the unofficial overclock to 1.

I'm running win7 64bit and it replaced a 4870 + 4850 crossfire.

The only 3d i've run on this so far was 2mins of 3d mark 06 and that looked ok but not enough time to fully test.

If possible could someone check the bios settings use RBE and let me know which clock info the 157/300 profile is under?
Thanks

Will start attempting to overclock today.
Just wondering, when I unlock voltage in Afterburner it is at 1100, is this my stock voltage? GPU-Z says 1.088 for VDDC which I assume is voltage.
What would be safe starting numbers for me does anyone know?

Ignore the voltage what the GPU-Z tells you...you could try bumping the voltage to 1.150v in MSI Afterburner, and core clock to 835MHz, Memory clock to 1200MHz (p.s. some demanding games don't like the memory clock at higher than 1100MHz). While I can overclock my 5850 to 975MHz core/1100MHz memory clock at 1.265v, but I find that most games in general at 1920 res don't need that much power, so I use 835MHz core/1250MHz memory clock at 1.150v instead for the not-so-demanding games.

He can try that but I cannot get more than 780/1125 with 1.15 V and not even sure if that's stable as the memory likes to fail at any but stock frequencies.

GTA IV and most other games work fine at high overclocks and low volts but BFBC 2 fails me any time at any overclock (almost).

I would suggest that you start overclocking without touching the memory first.

Just wondering if anyone elses card as developed cap squeal? Mine has in the past few days at any clocks/voltage in 3d apps. Its not majorly loud but I hear it over all the fans in my comp.

Not impressed considering they advertise these cards as using better components.

Had the voltage at 1.15v
Even a low overclock of 750/1050 was crashing instantly in heaven
I also suspect msi afterburner is causing in-game flickering.

I only got that on crysis, (start up screens) but apparently this is a common problem so not worried.

Have had the card since 29th but not got around to installing it in my pc yet, been meaning to but first going to take an air duster to the dust in my case(fans etc, 2years or so built up). my dsr is coming to an end, think it'll be Monday 10th due to the weekend and bank holiday Monday(1st and 2nd jan weekend and 3rd jan bank holiday, then 8th and 9th jan).

Also, unigine scored increased by 50 points when going from 10.12a back to 10.12 preview drivers.
Can't find a proper link for the genuine 10.12's if their are any. The links on pg.8 don't work for me.
