***The Official MSI 5850 Twin FrozeR Thread***

Would be interested to hear what benchmarks these MSI 5850s are posting @ their max stable overclock, if you have a system comparable to the one my in sig then all the better.

My Asus Radeon 6850 1GB V1 @ 950/1200 scores;

27119 3D Mark 2006 (latest version) default benchmark/settings
16815 3D Mark Vantage (latest version) default benchmark/settings
4264 3D Mark 11 (latest version) default benchmark/settings

Heaven Benchmark @ 1920*1080 default settings
36.0 FPS
19.7 Min FPS
83.0 Max FPS
Score 907

It would be nice to know how comparable these cards are.

Thinking about buying one of these guys. Is there a issue with overclocking these and not being able to push voltages above a certain limit? What would perform best a GTX460 fully overclocked or one of these? And what about the tesselation performance what difference does that make?

I can do the tests for you with max overclocks but cannot guarantee they'll be stable in other tasks besides those benches.

Also, compare the graphics scores only - overall performance scores will take entire systems into account which is not reliable in comparing graphics cards.

I would prefer max stable overclocks as that is what I am using for comparison.

I can't be bothered to do that, sorry. It would take me hours to test the overclocks.

I've got the card at the settings in sig atm, would you like me to test it at that?

Yeah that would be good. I do not know if mine will go higher then what I have it set too, but its nearing the max these can do.

Just done a Vantage run at 900/1200 MHz, 17898 Graphics score and P17413.

This is with the GPU at 1.26V, I think I can go a lot higher than that though (which would still likely not be able to play BFBC2 :().

EDIT: 930/1200, GPU Score: 18357, P17755

Can you do the rest... not sure how CPU dependant Vantage is but my score of P16815 is not bad really compared to your 5850 score of P17413... its a well known fact the 6850 is not as fast as the 5850 and once you overclock them both it stays ahead.

EDIT: Saw your edit about 1000 points difference in Vantage without taking into account my CPU advantage.

The performance score is highly CPU dependant. Use GPU score for graphics comparison.

ok so.

i did some tests at 930 / 1200 stable on my xfx 5850 and my msi 5850

i got heaven left on default settings at 1080p

1607

and 3dmark 11 8217

Just done vantage run @ 900/1200 1.25v

3DMARK SCORE-P17973
GPU-18244
CPU-17208

I just received this card back from OCUK after having an awful time with it, but so far all is good, time will tell, thought i'd post to compare results

well iam unsure they say nope, sent back as it used to crash all the time, bench and games, but now they tested it and sent back, it doesnt, so i dont know if its same card or not

Just noticed i wasnt running lastest version of vantage, so updated it

MSI 5850@ 930/1200 1.26v

3DMARK SCORE P18313

GPU - 18637
CPU 17404

Well, it's kinda difficult to have a defined max stable overclock, consider some games are harder to get stabled on than the others.

I overclocked a friend's 6850 to 850MHz/1200MHz on stock voltage stable on Heaven Benchmark, but it will crash in BFBC2...dropped the core clock to 835MHz seem to have solved the problem though.

May be BFBC2 is just tougher on overclock stability for graphic card than most other games...

My 5850's crash loads even on stock settings, its pretty frustrating :( i could return them but i bought one from the shop and one over the internet. So i could only get away with returning one

GPU Score for the 6850 overclocked in Vantage is 15343 clearly the 6850 when overclocked is on a par with an MSI 5850 at stock settings but once you overclock the 5850 it surpasses it by some margin.
