***The Official MSI 5850 Twin FrozeR Thread***

I'll post my overclock later but mine seems to be running very cool at 45-50% fan speed with a fairly hefty OC. Max 48 degrees with cpu temp maxing at 38. Rigs below.

That's with 2 instances of WoW running on ultra and max background FPS to 100% and 2 screens.

I'm having problems with this card. The performance fluctuates wildly. The best example of this is with 3dmark06. The frame rate will jump from 100+ to 15-20 in the same scene. Afterburner shows up these spikes and trough in the log.I'm using the latest 10.12 drivers from the AMD website.

I have a Corsair CX430 and Phenom 955 running on Asus Nvidia 630a board. Only one HDD. My first thoughts are that the PSU is not supplying a steady current to the card, but it's meant to be from a quality brand, operating well below its theoretical maximum.

I was thinking about starting my own thread, but thought I'd start in the official thread first.

Any similar issues? All help appreciated.

Is it the core & memory speed that are ramping up & down ?

Isn't min recommended PSU 500w?

Hi

I have successfully flashed the BIOS of my twin frozr 5850 ( thanks to Mr.Krugga )
Now the max core and memory in CCC are 1050 and 1350 respectively :)
Any tips on overclocking now ?
as to how do i manage the volts through MSi afterburner and clocks via CCC
its now stable at 800/1125 @ stock volts
any recommendations on how much should i increase the volts and clocks and check for stability

thanks :)

What bios did you use?

Did it make the card more stable with the graphics drivers in games?

This card is capable of good overclocks and can be put through its pace in stress test's, just useless at holding high overclocks in games without causing driver problems!

If you looking to increase your overclock some more, up the voltage to your happy max, for this card I would suggest 1.27 max then find the max stable clock like you normally would with that.

Higher voltage is not going to make the memory clock any more stable will just effect the core.

Does anyone elses fans constantly spin at 55%?
I don't have time to go through every page. Sorry.

Also I have 2 of these and as soon as anything 3D comes on. E.g. a game, both the cards whine realllly loud.
Waiting for OCUK to get back to me to see what they can do

You need to use Afterburner to create a new custom fan profile, default is 55% which is way to high.

My card idles at 37 C with fan at 29% speed

Ive noticed the same, my card can bench at 930/1250 no probs, but in games it crashes all the time, so i only run 800/1100 for games, runs everything fine at default tbh

Core and mem clock are stable. The GPU usage graph nosedives from about 90% to around 25%. Everything is at stock. Always at the same point in the benchmark, which I find a little odd. Crysis performance, even on med at 12x10 is consistently less than 20. GPU usage is at about 30%.

My first thoughts was the PSU, but it's handled a 4890 with no issues.

Stuck mine in yesterday alongside my Asus 5850 and while benchmarks work fine games are either stuttery or they lock up followed by a bsod. Cards are both at stock as i can't clock the MSI at all. I did the enable unofficial overclocking tweak in afterburner and if i move the slider just a tad, say 725-750 on the core and click apply it locks up and then bsod's. Using driver 11.2 by the way. Really can't be doing with this so may just DSR it. :(

I posted similar about not been able to overclock my Cross Fire set up by even 1Mhz. The reply was about the second card not been used in 2d mode to save power. You can overclock but both cards draw power. I just left it as it is as I'm happy with the normal performance.
You'll have to check back through the thread for the information.

Found it, post 267.
