The Official Nexus S Thread

The ergonomics of FroYo are quite fine as they are. Gingerbread builds on that and tweaks them further.

Yet the functionality side of stock FroYo still doesn't live up to FroYo + Sense, which adds amongst other things:

  • Camera
  • + Face detection
  • + Touch to focus
  • + More image settings
  • Email Client
  • + Conversation view
  • + Ability to set Exchange Out of Office replies
  • + Ability to send exchange meeting requests
  • FM Radio
  • T9 Dialer

Amazing how everyone raves about CyanogenMod, yet some of the features only recently added to CyanogenMod have been on the Desire even when it was running 2.1.

Maybe it's because you've been on Android longer than me and have seen it evolve from an even worse state. Coming from an iPhone like I did, I have a high expectation of how a user interface should look.

I've been on Android since 1.5 and have seen almost every iteration of every ROM on the handsets I have used over that period. I'd never say the stock UI on a custom ROM is amateurish, some of the guys on XDA put hard work and time into creating things such as the UOT and all that spawned from people creating the themes, animations and UI graphics we have today.

Having been on Sense for a while now I still ended up going back to Stock FroYo (Oxygen, from DeFrost). It's just cleaner.

Yep I have had other phones too and the iPhone is great but I've never thought "damn, I wish my Android was as swish as this" when I've had the iPhone in my grips for any amount of time because my Desire is as smooth, fast and giving me exactly what I ask of it when I ask of it and then some.

As for the Cyanogen features, there's a lot more deep down (documented in the CM changelog) that goes beyond what SenseUI can do.

Lame... Lame... Lame...

It's just a standard phone to replace the nexus 1 in the dev market (which is still $529) I guess it figures with 2.3 just being an incremental update.

Just get a cheap N1 if you want pure Android :(

(Although it'll be interesting to see the 'Contour Display' and how it handles reflections)

Roll on Galaxy S2 in a few months!

BS. Its $529 in the US. Google arent stupid.

I suspect BBC have found one retailer at that price. A retailer who will try and milk the price.

Just buy it from the Dev market for ~£400

Having read everything about it, I certainly wont change the DHD for one. It does virtually nothing better except the battery should be better, which I have no issue with anyway.

Yep and milled aluminium >>>>> glossy platic :p

I know what CyanogenMod does, but they're just not ground breaking enough to offset what's still missing in the stock Android applications.

HTC Sense is more feature rich than "stock" Android and just as fast to the naked eye.

The only lag I experience on the Desire is when installing application but this happens on majority of devices including those running the stock Android ROMs. This is confirmed by Paul @ Modaco who recently tweeted that a certain Android handset was the first one he's used when installing from the market doesn't cause slow down.

You seem to play about a lot with your phone, which is fine as it's your phone and it's your choice and it's not my place to judge.

However, my phone is used extensively for business and there's times where I'm not at my desk to set my out of office and I have to travel to another destination at the last minute. This is why setting out of office via my mobile is critical for me, so my customers understand why I'm not replying and if it's urgent they need to get me on my mobile.

Android with HTC Sense is the kind of feature rich and polished OS that stock Android should be in my opinion.

I certainly wouldn't buy a stock Android phone, not when there's phones on the market for the same price that have custom software on that adds missing stock Android features.

I'm not sure which phone Paul is talking about, but I notice little to no lag when installing apps on my DHD.

Right well I couldn't hold back :D

No idea when it should be here - 20th I guess.... £549 from CPW.

I have a Desire at the moment but I am a sucker for new toys - hopefully the XDA scene should kick off massively as it did for the original Nexus :)

Will report back once I got confirmation of delivery date :D

you crazy fool, i would have thought about it if the cpu was duel core and it had an sd card slot! and led notifications!

they are charging waaaaaaaaay to much for the spec which is pretty old now. £350 tops..

Its not all about the spec - its the dev following that interests me more :)

If you want to buy one of these why not fly to New York and buy one, the difference in cost will massively subsidise your flight :D
