The Official Nexus S Thread

Right well I couldn't hold back :D

Thank you for your order

No idea when it should be here - 20th I guess.... £549 from CPW.

I have a Desire at the moment but I am a sucker for new toys - hopefully the XDA scene should kick off massively as it did for the original Nexus :)

Will report back once I got confirmation of delivery date :D

Oooh first in forums??

I use my phone as a true smartphone - multimedia et'all - but I could never use 16GB on a phone :D

Getting itchy feet now - I want it now - have reverted the Desire to defaults ready to be bay'd :D

I use mine for music etc as well, with quite a lot of flac, so i have a 32GB card full. So 16GB will just not cut it.

I'm off to CPW this afternoon to pick up a repair for a friend, I'm hoping they have a display one in, this may seal the deal for me.

Yup, I will most likely be getting this mobile when I get the money for it and try and sell my spica for about £100 on a certain auction site :D

I actually think it looks really nice looking, kind of futuristic looking in some ways.

Stock android, guaranteed to get updates all the time (no waiting about for about 6-7 months to actually get an official update), don't have any rubbish skins/UI put on, which will just bloat it and add pointless features etc. SAMOLED 4"screen = FULL OF WIN :D

Also from all the videos that I have seen so far of it, it certainly does look lightning fast at doing everything (even quicker than the galaxy S and desire, which I have used), couldn't see any lag/slow down at all.

Really can't wait :D

Lagless operation isn't too difficult these days on the likes of a Desire on a custom ROM like LeeDroid or Oxygen or DeFrost especially after using the various HBOOT patches to increase internal memory.

Going by the Nexus S videos I would say my Oxygen powered Desire is as smooth and slick as the Nexus S doing the same things shown!

Still, do want!

^ My stock desire has lagless operation too.

Watching the backstory vid, 2.3 seems to focus on game development. I think the Nexus S has been designed specifically for this (and NFC). Having internal iNAND will greatly improve load times of all these big 3D shooters. Also having the proven SGX540 as a starting point is a good move (and less risky than the uber quadcore mali gfx in Samsungs Orion SoC.)

Well in the 2.3 SDK there are references to START/SELECT/L1/L2/R1?R2 etc so integartion with the new Playstation platform via PSPhone seems to be a focus. Perhaps use the Nexus S as a gyroscopic remote/controller with screen via Bluetooth!

OR BEYOND!!

Oh yeah, I know that, I was comparing the ones on just the stock ROMs i.e HTC stock 2.2 sense and stock 2.2 touchwiz for the GS :p. As putting on different ROMs does certainly increase a lot of the important areas, mainly performance and battery life.

But still it's nice to see that it is lightning quick on just the stock android. No need to do anything really as much as I like the customizations and other things after rooting and flashing different ROMs on, it is a bit tiresome, when certain things don't work etc. or a few bugs or something annoying happens and then also the feeling when your in the middle of a flash or booting up after applying a new ROM thinking "OMG, something better not go wrong" etc. :p

In other words it's nice to have it fully working, very very fast, hopefully good battery life as well just out of the box instead of having to do all the rooting etc. to get it to the highest possible standards that it should be.

Galaxy S + Official Froyo + Root + Lag Fix = Very smooth and fast android phone

is perfect imo (unless you really need a decent gps). Anyone looking for a cheaper Nexus S alternative should get the above. New Galaxy S phones are selling for £280-£300 on ebay.

Why has the Nexus S got no mention of 720p @ 30fps but instead 480p @ 30fps? The galaxy S has 720p at a butter smooth 30fps indoors at night.

Hmm I think my original idea of getting a Galaxy S and installing Gingerbread is more and more likely!

Are the GPS issues hardware related on the Galaxy S? Accurate GPS is very important for me!

Still looking damn good to me :D

Not only that but the HD recording on the galaxy S is far better than the nexus 1 and even better than the desire HD  as khaaan said "on par with even the iphone 4 HD recording", so surely it would be the same case with the nexus S, but even better, right?

The processor is suppose to be better than any of the other ones on the market at the minute (think on engadget, they said it was the same as the iphone 4 one) along with the GPU as well.

Oh and also another important factor for me, the battery life , looks pretty good from some of those reports so far, lets hope that is true. At least they didn't pull an HTC trick by putting a crap battery in a power hungry phone :p

As for the GPS issues it is most likely due to the xxxx samsung software, as the spica had the same problem, but it has now been fixed for the spica by the great developers at samdroid.net :D
