The Official Nexus S Thread

Ah ok. Thing is Google's official spec goes into detail about the camera but only lists 720x480 @ 30fps as a max recording resolution, this is not 720p so I imagine it is something XDA will mod in once it gets rooted and cooked up.

I still want the Nexus though, it looks nicer and is curved!

@Nexus18

Well the cpu is a 45nm cortex a8 which quite a few new phones have now.

What differentiates samsung's hummingbird is that it has the best gpu on the mobile phone market. The Galaxy S and Samsung Wave had this back earlier in the year though.

Hmmm, o right ok.

Yeah hopefully something will be done about that then, pretty sure the developers will sort something out.

Lol, yup same, so so soooooo tempted at the minute :p, but going to hold out till some user and expert reviews, for the price to drop a bit, for me to get the money :p and I can also upgrade in January so hopefully they might offer me the nexus S for a good price/deal and if not, then screw them :p, will have to buy it outright, probably be able to get it for a decent price on the auction site after a month or so of it being out.

Really can't wait to see some proper reviews as well :)

Ah right ok, I knew that the GS had it and that it was the hummingbird as well, but I thought they improved it a wee bit so that it is slightly better than the GS  or the GPU or done something to it :p

Maybe it's all in my head :p

Expect a full side by side with the desire when it arrives :)

Look forward to it :)

The news is that Russian handsets will sport a Super LCD version of the screen, not a SAMOLED one due to the shortage issues.

How long before the US/UK get these instead as well is unknown!

Expect the lock animation to be all over custom ROMs on almost all Android phones soon :p

I have to say though, after seeing all the videos, I think the Desire runs just as smooth on a custom AOSP ROM so I fully expect Nexus S smoothness when the gingerbread ROMs start appearing on the Desire (Galaxy S as well, obviously).

Hopefully it won't be for a while for us then :p, otherwise I would have second thoughts about getting one then :p, as the screen is a big selling point for me.

Although saying that, I have been reading about gingerbread at XDA, and TBH, I am rather disappointed with it so far, it doesn't seem to be a big update like what it was with 1.5-2.1 and 2.1-2.2, especially when google where saying that the biggest update would be the completely revamped UI, which apparently will actually be for honeycomb (3.0) now amongst a few other features.

Rumors are that Google didn't have time to implement the new UI fully or that they scrapped there current idea and want to try and make it better than what they where intending on doing or something like that.

Although as you say, when gingerbread based ROMs come out, they should improve the smoothness even more due to utilizing the GPU more, which is why the nexus S probably looks smoother/more fluid or something at the minute maybe, was just expecting more TBH :(, as most of the new things like the keyboard (looks amazing :D), launcher have already been ported back to 2.2 as well as the theme for all the android phones pretty much :p

But still none the less, I am sure that will notice the update in terms of speed and a few other nice additions under the bonnet like the new handling/management of running tasks etc. which apparently will be more efficient in terms of performance and battery life :D

Also apparently honeycomb will be the update that will require a pretty powerful mobile, so kind of want to wait and see what happens with it now and then decide on the mobiles, also honeycomb will be aimed more towards the tablets, hence apparently the revamp of the UI.

Yup, can't wait for the lock screen animation :D

Hmm, someone needs to custom animate that then, just reverse the off animation and put it into the UOT, job done!

Yup, I am sure that someone at XDA will :D

It reminds me of the terminator vision, when it turns off (arnie shuts down for good :():

You know at the end of terminator 2 at 4.21:

That ending scene is so sad :o

Yeah, google really should have done something a bit better for it tbh like 1080p recording or something to make it stand out a bit more.

Plus the price there asking for it, is pretty bad, but then it is branded by google

Although the main selling points are:

- 4" SAMOLED screen
- Will always get the official android updates as soon as they are done, don't have to wait for like 5-6 months for the official update and probably an even longer wait for some networks to roll out the update, plus you know that you will get the updates
- It is pure stock android
- Has one of the best processors on the market at the minute, better than the desire etc.
- NFC chip, although not really very popular at the minute, but I am sure that this mobile will kick start the trend for it

Well those are the main advantages for me :p

Although unfortunately it will be outdated tech at the start of next year, with dual core mobiles etc.

EDIT:

Also this:

They seem to like it a lot :D

i have a desire and do like this, but £550 is nuts! - if it had duel core or something way better than the rest, but jeeeeeeees its on par with the nexus1, SGS and Desire, it just does not boast that much more...... saying that if it rocked in at £350 i would properly get one on the plus's mentioned above, but for £550 i cant do it, and again as mention duel core coming early 2011
