I went into an EE shop in Leeds today to see whether they had any news on the Amber update - lad in there shrugged his shoulders (fairly apologetically) and said they didn't know what was going on with windows phones at the minute - they hadn't had an 925 in, and he said that they'd heard nowt about the 920 update. He then added that normally a lack of update means they're dropping the product to push towards the newer ones.

Thanked him for his honesty, and left thinking I might just flash the country variant and have done with it......

I love the yellow 920's but they are priced much higher for some reason over the black and white variants. The main thing that is bothering me is despite the 925 being an upgrade its a downgrade when it comes to storage. I won't be buying from Vodafone so it will be the 16GB version.

cu3ed, what are you going to say about WP OS? My wife has it and the biggest issue I can see are the apps. iOS is great for app selection. Android isn't far behind apart from the apps are full of adverts. Apps don't concern me too much as I still have an iPad and my app usage has declined a lot over the past two years.

I like it, but it does lack in a few areas, which you have addressed yourself from trying the other halfs, so I didnt see the point saying the same old thing over and over ( lack of apps etc), that and if you have tried one WP8, you have tried them all really, though of course Nokia brings a lot more to the table in their handsets.

The apps are a concern but I am fully aware of the issue. I'm a strong believer too that given enough usage that developers will have to take note that WP usage is on the up.
TBH I think if Google ported their apps across a lot more developers would also come. I'm pretty sure Google are also aware of this and therefore don't want to make it's competition any more attractive.

I wish I didn't take this S4 contract out. Luckily its only 18 months rather than 24. I would loved to have gotten the 1020. Pictures a very important recently, with my two boys growing up I take a lot of pictures!

More leaks of the 1520 looks awesome, love the gdr3 update, extra column of live tiles will make a huge difference to the User experience.

6" is massive and I like a small phone, although I will go to a shop and see what it feels like when it's released.

Here you go.

We won’t know the physical dimensions until Nokia releases them, but what we do know is the alleged screen size: 6-inches. With that information I scaled the image from @evleaks to match a 6-inch diagonal screen size (at 1080p resolution). After that I figured out that the rough dimensions of the Lumia 1520 are 6.4 x 3.4-inches. This is not exact, but it should be pretty close.

GDR2 + Amber update

Hi all, I'm looking for some clarification as I'm thinking of getting either this or the Ativ S. I know this can be a bit of a contentious issue but I think a mobile, in todays day and age, that cannot block incoming calls is frankly ridiculous. As I understand iOS, Android, hell even my backup Symbian Nokia 700 can do it with an app. I've read on WPCentral that with GDR2 + Amber update if you update the extras + info app from the marketplace SMS and call blocking is enabled, can anyone confirm this? Is it carrier specific too?

Apparently Microsoft enabled or made available some APIs that allow this now, my current mobile, HTC Mozart obviously doesn't, still running WP7.8.

I'm leaning towards the Ativ S as I prefer the removable battery and microsd, I'll get HERE maps for the UK as I understand and generally, although almost totally plastic, I prefer the design of the Ativ S, and it came straight out of the box at launch with call blocking :-)

Thanks for any info,
J.

I'd 100% definitely get a Lumia over the Ativ S. With the Ativ S and even the 8X etc you just get bog standard GDR2, with the Lumia range you get GDR2 + a load of Nokia bolt-ons with the Amber update. A lot of these are superb, like the Glance screen, and the Nokia Pro and Smart Cam apps are incredible.

Call and SMS blocking come with GDR2, here it is. ;)
