Got this today as the update to my repair sent back to Nokia.

We were unable to repair your Nokia Lumia 920 and have instead exchanged it for you.
The replacement is now on its way back to you via UPS.

Would this be a new phone you think?

I had one exchanged, not sure if it was refurb or new but didnt come in retail box but it was spotless not even a smudge so I was happy

I would be happy with that, I wouldn't expect a new box etc as its just the unit I would need, do you get a new IMEI number though?, as for insurance reasons I would have to update then.

Code:
Lumia 920	Everything Everywhere	1232.5957.1308.0020	Waiting for approval

:(

Any further update you can give us Eliot?

I don't know why people keep quoting that thing. It doesn't have the right SW and isn't even accurate. Ignore it.

The update should still be on track to go out today. It will happen any time after 5pm UK time. Try forcing the update by telling it to check for updates. It won't go to all handsets straight away.

Yes you get a new IMEI, Actually I emailed them the other day for a confirmation of the change and they sent over a nice pdf with the old and new IMEI to send to insurers/provider.

Anybody know how to solve the 'Get media content now' problem?

You've received an MMS. There are two possible reasons why you're getting that message.

1. Your APNs aren't set correctly. Go to Settings -> Access Points and make sure the right one is selected.

2. Your SIM isn't activated for MMS yet. Phone your operator and find out what's going on.

Getting more tempted to play around with a 928 from Verizon as an upgrade to my Razr M, can be had for around $325 on eBay and it looks like the Amber update got pushed a few weeks back.

I want the smooooth of my RT tablet on my phone dammit :p Liking Xbox Music Pass too between the Win8 Pc, tablet and phone too.

Only thing that's stopping me is the thought of waiting a couple months for the Nexus 5 with LTE, tough call!

Still waiting on the Amber Update from EE... seriously poor show from them.

Never again for me with them - they dropped the Omnia 7 updates on my first foray into windows phones, their coverage has dropped right off since the 4G launch (2G only signal in the middle of Leeds??), and this farce again with the Amber update has made up my mind - I'm stuck with them for another year, but that'll be the end of it for me with them.....

I got one of the early 12 month contracts with EE that were decent value, but once that finishes in November then I can't see myself continuing with them. The 920 is a great phone I'm happy to continue using on a SIM-only basis, but for that EE are just way too expensive.
For me it'll be a case of unlock the phone, flash the country variant firmware and then find a decent SIM-only deal. Unfortunately it looks like it'll probably be with '3' again, even though their customer service was the worst I have ever experienced.

I tweeted EE about the Amber Update and they're blaming Nokia, stating that they're making sure it's working before release. I'm thinking BS because it's released from Nokia and it's now at EE for them to add their crap, no?

Hi, just waiting for Nokia, they like to test any updates before it rolled out, as they want to give the best service they can

I've been with Orange for years, they're good but since turning EE, the signal is hit and miss. I also get variation of battery drain because of location. e.g. Going to London, my phone drains a lot more than staying in and around Yorkshire. Going to Portmouth drains more than Yorkshire but less than London.

Anyway, I might join a lot of ditchers and go over to Three. Good pricing, more data, speed is good. Customer services can't be any worst than Orange / EE...

Usual pass the buck response. They obviously haven't given Nokia the nod to release it as it's sat there on the Nokia server waiting to go, and it's also quite happily sat on my phone working rather nicely. :)

I'd 100% definitely get a Lumia over the Ativ S. With the Ativ S and even the 8X etc you just get bog standard GDR2, with the Lumia range you get GDR2 + a load of Nokia bolt-ons with the Amber update. A lot of these are superb, like the Glance screen, and the Nokia Pro and Smart Cam apps are incredible.

Call and SMS blocking come with GDR2, here it is. ;)

Update, I've taken your advice and kind of joined the club, although with a twist! I've snagged a Lumia 925 boxed and sealed, damn thing is locked to O2 though, I'm virtually at the end of my contract anyway (couple of months) and may just get a PAC code moving to O2 anyway. You were right Brenn47, the Nokia software clinched it although I do think the Ativ S is cracking for the price you can pick them up for, also it does come with the call blocking that I wanted...

See you all soon,
J.

Definitely the right choice, the Nokia extras are superb.

Can you not just unlock it for £20 ish?
It's an option, I'll probably give o2 a bell when I get it. I've had a Mozart for over 2 years now so looking forward to it :) If I do unlock it I'll have to cut my standard virgin sim chip down, probably nip in a shop and see if they will do it for me...
