****The Official Note III Thread****

Comparing the Lumia 1520 at work with Note 3 and I have to say it's very impressive in the camera department. The Lytro style focus mode is very impressive where you can focus on something after the picture is taken. The default image capture is better on the Note 3 though where details are retained in highlight areas where the Nokia tended to overexposuse highlights in the background.

Other than that, the battery is 200mAh bigger but the screen isn't that much larger only measuring around half a cm taller phsically. The phone frame itself is considerably wider and taller though. Not a pocketable device.

It's not the Note 3 wiping device my manager makes it out to be :p

I've got £5k left in the mobile hardware budget and it's gotta be used so a bunch of devices will be ordered for the office for testing. I don't want one for myself tough, just hasn't got me excited (until Galaxy S5 :p)

Ok, just received my device and although it all looks new, the box had 'samsung' labelled stickers over the original security seals which had been broken. Any way to check I've not been sold a refurb?

Ah, it shouldn't have any extra Samsung stickers on it.

Check that it's running UK firmware. If your not happy with it then return it, I would.

Yea shouldnt have any extra samsung labeled stickers on it at all, box should have 3 stickers only, 2 on either end and only one on the side, out of the 3, only one has a samsung logo on it, the other is about region and the last one is a barcode.

I've checked the firmware at sammobile and it appears to be latest UK. Does that rule out it being an import? I'm still waiting for the seller to reply, although Amazon have said they will gladly take it back or give me a discount..

Thanks for the help.

Since the boxed was opened before you got it means someone could have flashed a UK ROM. How much discount is Amazon offering?

Also Amazon will cover you with 12M warranty as its fulfilled.

@ Mike - Your phone should be with you tomorrow right?

@Kona

Yes mate, its like Christmas eve here....... rewind my age 20 years and you're at my excitement level :D I was tempted to take the day off work and wait for it even.... but then realised I'd miss out on a migration I'm really meant to be a part of!

Andy - That funny USB connector is for USB 3 ;)

Good stuff!

I'm interested in your thoughts on it as you've played with the N5 too.

To get the best out of the Note I'd recommend installing Nova launcher as disabling all the bloat you don't need. I also disable the softkey backlights to make the phone look cleaner and less cluttered.

I just hope the camera is up to the spec of the nexus one! I managed to take some really 'ok' pictures with it! The s4 I briefly had really sucked at photos for some reason!

I know people say its a phone with a camera, not a camera...and I have a dslr, but I don't carry the camera everywhere!

Kona - Out of interest, how do you find the video quality of the note 3? I believe it does high fps recording but am wondering how quickly it chews through space! What concerns me is that the note 3 apparently has the same setup as the galaxy s4 and I wasn't that impressed by it.

The Note 3 camera has more features than the S4 camera, picture quality seems better too in some situations. The camcorder is really excellent and produces proper camcorder quality video especially in 4k resolution and in video recording is where the Note 3 camera wins as a camera.

Got my sim-free N3 on Friday, to replace my trusty HTC One - see MM shortly ;)

Very impressed with the device so far, although until my number ports (sometime today) I have not spent time with it as my primary phone. That said, had lots of tinkering time over the weekend, copying data across and installing all the apps I never use but figured I should put on.

So far, so good - pleased with the whole shebang! Snagged a S-View Cover from town at the weekend, was not too keen on the £50 rrp, but a nice chap in an O2 store, of all places, said I could have one for 25% discount. Put through as Priority Moments discount, even though I am not a customer, but not about to complain......

What's the root situation with these? I am not fussed about ROMs, really, but like to be able to fully utilise Titanium......never bothered with the HTC One, as bootloader stuff seemed too much effort. Can these phones be 1-click-rooted?

@ Mike, video recording is nice due to 1080p@60fps making it very smooth. However as no real effort has been made to aid low light performance, such as larger sensor with bigger pixels and OIS, it's only really good in well lit situations.

@ kevpuk - rooting is easy enough via chainfire, but you'll trip KNOX and void warranty. If your on old firmware there is a workaround.
