****The Official Note III Thread****

Hmm various people having errors with 4.4.2 at the moment it seems looking at the latest posts. Maybe I should wait a bit longer...

Dont know if im looking forward to kitkat or not, i love the note 3 as it is right now, just hope kitkat doesnt have any major flaws.

Same here - AFAIK KitKat doesn't bring anything groundbreaking to the Note 3, so there's no rush indeed.

Mike - how are you getting on dude?

Had a brown trouser moment at work today! It takes up a lot more space in my funky overall/spacesuit get up that I'm currently wearing and I banged it really hard into the corner of a wall. Figured I'd probably broken it and should cry..... but it was fine!

Honestly : I prefer stock android to this Samsung stuff, the IR blaster has provided lots of amusement both at work and at home (/childish). The camera I think is ok... not great for a high end device but not awful. I think I need to remove myself from the mindset that its a camera for all situations. Its a phone with a camera. I need to take my slr out with me more!

I find the volume of the note 3 to be far better than the nexus 5, however why on earth they didn't fit this thing with stereo speakers is beyond me. Samsung need to learn something from HTC here and apply it. (Best they don't learn product support and software update or we are all doomed!)

With regards to the above though - This phone is a lot more snappy than the S4 I briefly owned. I'm yet to see any stutter or slowdown which is a testament to the Snapdragon 800 and 3gb ram I think. The s4 seemed to lag and pause sometimes which was irritating for a then, £500 phone from Amazon.

The battery is STILL going....... only just but I've never had a phone that ran this long on a single charge. Actually, I lie. My 7110 would do a few days and my 3210 similar ;)

I'll stick with the S-Pen being a gimmick, I'm sure to some people its useful but I don't find it so and it'll probably spend its life in the little hole-home Samsung made for it.

Am I going to keep it? I don't know honestly yet. I was blown away with the speed of the nexus for the price, and I do like stock android. However, the nexus battery was nothing compared to this phone and the screen is soooo good for browsing websites such as this fine forum and my other usual haunts.

Nice feedback there Mike - I agree TW does put a slight downer on the phone and there's also soo much to like about the Note 3.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts after a few more days.

Do you still have the N5?

No mate. Took google nearly two weeks to sort out getting my shipping labels out though! No sign of a refund yet either!

In all honesty though - I am tempted to send this back and buy it sim free. The saving on the 'cost' of the phone itself is rather massive. I'm glad I went with the black one over the white one now I have it in my hand.

Something else I'm amazed at, and though the nexus also felt really manageable with one hand - the real estate of the screen on the Note make it even more impressive that it doesn't feel stupidly large. Call quality seems to be spot on from the two conversations I've had so far and it quite happily connects to my tomtom Bluetooth kit in the car.

Signal seems just as good as my 4s which is the usual lacking 1 bar / 0 bar at home (perhaps I should jump networks instead of always sitting with o2 or one of the mvno's that use their kit. I'm yet to try o2's tugo app, which may solve all my issues here......... (I'll report back on this bit)

Its a real shame google can't pull their finger out and use Motorola to design their phones, or bring more GPE devices out and actually sell them in the UK (note 3 would be lovely). I think this phone would be perfect with vanilla android but I'm not willing to lose my warranty just yet.

I feel the nexus 5 would have been a better device for me personally (I hate my stuff getting left behind ala HTC desire and then being unsupported very early in its life, hopefully Samsung don't follow this direction) but every single Samsung product I've owned (tv, hdd's, previous phones, fridge freezer) has turned up perfect. I don't think I can say the same for Google, or indirectly LG.

Not having had to use Samsungs support or customer services for anything I can't comment on how they fare but from my experience with the representatives at google just about every company in the UK could learn something from them with regards to how they speak to and deal with customers.

Yeah, I'm using SweetRom V5 at the moment but think I'll hold out a bit until the issues are addressed. Shouldn't be too long!

Ok gurus i have a question for you all, regarding the note 3 and mobile data E/3G/HSDPA - Something i noticed while out an about today, had spotify running and enjoying the music when it stopped, phone was showing E instead of H but refused to play or even show me my music, so i turned mobile data off and on and H came back and was fine, then music stopped and repeat above, it kept doing this - almost like the device was ignoring the fact something is running and turning the H off which seems to have confused spotify - Is this by design or something i can tinker with?
Not come across this before and has me stumped - on Vodafone if that matters.

I assume Spotify was streaming? Surely you were just in a really poor service area? I know Vodafone can be a little 'all or nothing'. It tried H, struggled and dropped to E which is too slow for streaming anything... Off and On means it tries H and 3G, but there just wasn't a strong enough signal.

Anyone had any heating issues and massive battery drainage?

Yes recently Ive had "Android OS" sucking my battery dry hard to tell whats causing this, the phone never enters sleep at all but looking at Wakelock Detector or Better Battery Stats I can see what is preventing it, it seems to be several processes combined.

Decisions decisions!

I know the feeling, news of CyanogenMod is the first time I've felt the need to root and install custom roms on the Note 3, I miss AOSP far too much.

Edit: Was just about to flash CWM but not sure which version I need currently stock unrooted XXUDMJ7

CWM 6045 is the one recommended in the CM11 thread. That's the one I already have too. If you're on 4.4.2 Samsung then you're on the new bootloader so cannot flash CM/AOSP. You must be not updated to Samsung KitKat in order to install CM11 (for now).

I'm going to install CM11 but not this nightly, 15-1 has a bug where the in call microphone doesn't work!

I flashed temaseks v33 CM11 build last night + using his kernel with his settings, battery life is great!

This is overnight:

People are reporting to get about 7-8 hours of screen usage easily with normal use on a full battery, in most cases even more so it looks promising. Will test the rom a bit more today but so far no bugs from what I can see.

Mic during calls isn't working they say.

I've flashed Samsung KitKat now anyway and restored all my apps and stuff. Subtle differences here and there mostly, feels smoother.

I've got the same problem, "Android OS" draining my battery.

Anyway to stop this ?

Strange, either way I've updated the bootloader now so until AOSP can be installed on new bootloaders I'll just leave it like this on SweetROM as it's working real nice.
