** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

Almost certain you can't step up from the same GPU model to another, even if it's reference to better performing custom.

"Step-Up is limited to pre-approved graphics cards only and can only be used for exchange to a different and higher performing GPU."

Damn I was thinking "hmm I could get the EVGA founders 1080 then step up to the classified" so that will not be possible?

"Graphics Cards Examples:

GTX 780 Ti → GTX 980: YES (Upgraded GPU)
GTX 960 2GB → GTX 960 4GB SuperSC ACX2.0+ 1GB: YES (Upgraded Memory)
GTX 970 FTW → GTX 970 FTW+ : YES (Upgraded Model)"

This would suggest you can step-up the same model, as long as it is higher performance than the one you have, as shown in the example.

yeh but then the 1080ti will be replaced 12 months later by an 1180, equaled by 1170 and tank in value... you can look at it either way...

All I'm saying is buyers wanting to stay on the edge with the highest performing GPU are going to get burned by NVIDIA regardless. I understand this and accept it. If you or anyone else can't stomach the cost, which will then be shafted by another GPU at not much more £/almost half the price then fair enough. This is how it is now, NVIDIA carelessly devalued their current high end cards with the hype of "1070 faster than Titan X". They only have their best interests in mind and it's of no surprise because we've been here before with the 970 making the original Titan redundant. I would rather accept the way it is and make my choice than pretend I don't know what is going on in the GPU market.

I have a 780 and will get a 1080 whatever the benchmark results due to the obvious increase in performance.

I cant understand anyone with a 980ti wanting a 1080 if the benches are 30% performance increase (Realistic)

Is everyone still ok with me doing the owners thread for the GTX 1080

The reason being that I would like to start the thread tomorrow so I can put the review links in the OPs.:)

yep no news there lol.

I just need another 30% (hopefully more) so I can run games at 3440x1440 at decent settings and framerates. My current choice there is... a 1080... or .... a 1080...

Surprised there are not any leaks or anything, as it is the 17th in a lot of countries now. Maybe the NDA is US time only.

It's probably a good idea to do this, but one step down. i.e.

Buy 770 - slightly faster than 680 for nearly half the price

Buy 970 - slightly faster than 780 Ti for under half the price

Buy 1070 - slightly faster than 980 Ti for nearly half the price

Say you budgeted about £1000 over 3 generations, doing this you'd end up with a 1070 (starting from the 7xx series), but you'd run out of money at the 980 under your example. And the 970 isn't that much slower than the 980, so I think this way works out better in the long run.

The sensible thing to do with upgrades. I'm still disappointed at the lack of any news at this time. They should do all their business by Japan or australia time, then we'd have benchmarks by now :)

Only snippet I can find from someone currently writing a review but under the NDA

"A quick bit of info.

I'd typically say that previous generation high end owners (ie: 980 Ti) won't need to worry about upgrading to the xx104 chip.

Not this time. Good lord.

That is all."

It wouldn't make much sense to allow a gradual drop of the NDA. It's most likely to be tied to PST and 00:00 PST Tuesday will be at 8am, Tuesday UK time.
If there's been no break of the NDA so far there's no reason it will be broken with just hours to go. If you're going to break I don't think the consequence will be different whether it's days or hours ahead.

Another teaser from him.

30% versus what? 980Ti? Let's just say that for once a manufacturer's PR performance charts may have been a bit.....*ahem*....conservative (for non-VR). "

Dammit just give me some benchmarks I cannot take it anymore. :D
