But if its true that the 1080 is only 20% faster than a 980ti...

Again... nvidia have just flat out lied in their presentation.....

Where did they flat out lie? the performance graphs versus the Titan X showed around 22% or something and the gaming graphs versus a 980 worked out to around 28-33% over a 980ti with a bit of guesswork.

No in their performance graph it clearly says ROTR is 80% faster than a 980 and Witcher 3 is 75% faster than a 980.

That is quite a bit more than 20% faster than a 980ti, as a 980ti is only about 30% faster than a 980.

I wonder how many 980ti sellers (especially the ones who sold theirs for <£400) are feeling this morning? :p

Perhaps this review of the 1080 might settle those people ;)

Sorry but I couldn't resist :p

Certainly going to be interesting seeing some proper reviews though. I expect it to be slightly better than the 980ti overall, will be pretty shocked if it is barely any better.

The slides were fairly accurate since they compared with a standard 980, not a 980ti. However, they certainly kept saying twice as fast as TitanX in the presentation which was stretching the truth a bit.

The clue seems to be in the resolution they kept showing. I can't remember them even talking about 1440P or 4K and Doom was shown at 1080P.

I said this ages ago, but I feel that stock clocks of this card will be low to keep power use under a certain load so to appear that they are making strides in power savings.

So at Stock, it won't be that much better than the 980Ti.

But, when you factor in overclocking, I think these cards will really shine, and the gap between an OC 980Ti and an OC 1080 will be much bigger.

Annoyed ATM. But that review we have seen was pretty crap.

Hopefully a custom 1080 with high clocks will actually be worth getting, rather than just getting another 980ti at a loss, as 550+ for a 20% gain is just not worth it.

Need proper reviews, that one is rubbish really, but the results on show are exactly what I was predicting i.e. very underwhelming. Commiserations perhaps to all the 980Ti panic sellers.

When are the other better reviews out chaps, UK time ??
2pm i think for the reviews

Seems the case the 980ti owners that have sold cards as low £300 will be scrambling to buy back a 980ti .because no one in there right mind can justify spending another £200 maybe £300 if the 1080's are £599 ..

Just to get an increase of 15 to 25% at best.

Like i said before its prime time to buy an 980 ti £300 is a steal so for £600 2 x 980ti's aint bad if your into sli ...but the 2nd hand value will go up slightly once the dust settles.

this is why its all-ways best to sell earlier and i mean well in advance or sit tight on the card and wait for results

so yes Commiserations to the 980 ti sellers

I can't help think people were expecting too much. If nvidia release a card that maxes games at 4k and 60fps, then what scope does that leave them with for their future variants? No one would buy anything else for years. They are gonna just gradually feed it out to us.

Wind it in...You don't even know about overclocking or anything yet..

I'll wait for the Anantech reviews.

ROTR in that graph is 76% faster than a 980 - 980 v 980ti in that game ranges from around 17% faster to upto 50% faster depending on settings and resolution so without knowing exactly what they tested hard to compare precisely - if you take the very high settings benchmarks and add 76% to the 980's numbers it comes out at 17% above the 980ti which is what that benchmark linked before shows but that might just be coincidence.
