Excuses for what?

They said they can be overclocked to 2.1Ghz - they can.

They said it would be around 980 sli performance or 1.7x a 980's performance in gaming - it is.

It was bs in the way it was presented, showing 67c and 2.1ghz, im not saying it cant be done but having a cooler running at 100%...nope.

It's interesting that people who have cards for 200-400£ wanted to upgrade but why would they want to suddenly spend so much more? This is price range of x80ti not normal x80.

People with ti and titan will wait for their replacement. Not sure who would spend so much money on such a little upgrade compared to 980ti (20-30% more for 100% more in price if you buy used 980ti for 300£)

Since when was what we have seen crazy overclockabilty. Something like a 7950 that could go from 800 core to around 1200 which is 50% is crazy. Most Maxwell cards are pretty crazy but this is poor when overclocking is concerned. If they have to up the voltage to achieve big overclocks then efficiency goes out the window. Personally power usage is not a concern for me.

Reading up on overclocking, it looks like the way it is dealt with is more confusing than we traditionally know and the tools used are basically broken (EVGA PX being one of them). You can still OC the old way though and that is showing some decent overclocks from the couple of sites I have read but it is far from perfect. One site had the clocks at 2.1Ghz and then dropped to just under 2Ghz - Hopefully this is just teething issues or maybe even power issues but I will dig a bit deeper into this when I get mine.

I haven't actually read anyone of the big sites say they couldn't get past 2Ghz and the 3 I read all had 2.1Ghz overclocks. Meh, time will tell what is what I guess but certainly looks like the tools/drivers need some work by all accounts.

Well lets just say they weren't exactly forthcoming with the facts of how they achieved the overclock. Showing temps of 67c as if the cards taking it in its stride while in the background theres a tornado blowing, definitely what everyone wants on their desk.

watch it again and notice they only turn v-sync off for a second and thats when the temps go up then they stop it

its at very least misleading

if amd started bragging about temps with vsync on....lol maybe they will...to be continued :p
but the way nvidia fans defend it is funny to me, its like they all submissive and cute

Yeah, they should've released the cards with a base clock of 1GHz just to claim 100% overclockability. Much wow, very genius.

Also, bashing the reference card for poor overclocking potential is patently ridiculous. The cooler is obviously worse than even regular AiB solutions, and we're clearly going to see custom cards with 2 8-pins.

The problem with the price is that people will pay it, then the next big release will have a Founders Turbo 1080ti, which will have the price jacked up $150. Then when a few idiots pay for that, the next gen cards you'll get a 1180 Founders Black Turbo XXX edition and they'll jack the price up $200.

Companies would be stupid to not just ask for more money, at worst, no one buys and they drop prices back to 'normal' and people buy. The problem is customers, if you always pay what they ask, they'll keep asking for more. Customers feel like they have to buy instantly and pay whatever they are asked. No, that is stupid, the consumer has 100% of the power. Refuse to pay the price and they'll drop them.

Use your power, refuse to pay the $100 and not only will they drop the prices quicker, the next card they'll not add the $100 on in the first place because their customers already told them where to stick it. Paying now isn't just being lubed up for this one, you're actively screaming at them to jack the prices up again and again until the consumer tells them to stop.

+1
