** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

I think your dreaming a bit to much.. dont hold your breath.. but i guess time will tell if your wish comes true.

Yeah quite possibly, but it does look like the reference is held back somewhere. Everyone is maxing out around 2.1 GHz, but also hitting thermal limits.

So squeezing out an extra 200-300 MHz from a quality custom card with 2 power connectors doesn't seem like a crazy expectation.

eehh, dont know what benchmarks you've been looking at but for me its qutie the opposite. The reviews are showing much performance gains than was indicate by the launch.

Same here DP, exactlyu what i was expecting and enough for me to swap from my two 290x. No more xfire issues etc.

Just need a partner one and stick it under water.

Should get around £400 for my pair of 290x, Im happy to put £200 to that to have a single card, faster solution.

Then I can add another 1080 later when they have dropped in price or I see one going cheap.

Sooo disappointing, ah well hopefully the less obscenely priced 1070 will restore some faith in the green wallet muncher, that or we get a miracle and AMD get their **** together.

I can understand people get hyped, the 1080 performance is nice.
But lets not forget, this is the first card on the new node, if the others are released we can see how much is nvidias doing in this, and how much is the new node.
At the moment we can only compare it with 28nm cards. Ofc it looks shiny.

Ah loving the Smell of the Hype train :)

Wasnt 83c pretty much a given on the stock 980ti/tx cooler, and pretty loud too? As mentioned above, aftermarket cooled models should run a good deal quieter and cooler.

Most I saw was 77c on my Ti's on reference cooler. MSI 6g on the other hand in SLI hit 85c. Hense me moving to water cooling.

Blowers are better for SLI. Single cards then an aftermarket cooler is better.

Maxwell had plenty of OC headroom. You could have upgraded a year ago for a similar price and had similar performance. This is assuming you overclock some. In your case though it's a decent upgrade looking at crossfire performance.

Also guys remember that the reference cards are pretty loud, especially if you want to keep it overclocked as you'll need to set a (louder) custom curve.

Wait for the after-market ones (if you don't want to watercool or expell the air out of the back of your case)

I love all the complaining about the fact it can't do 4k at 60fps that was never going to happen need another two gen's of cards before you get a stable 60fps at that depending on the game.

Personally I like the card I'll be able to get rid of my two 980's and get one 1080 and get a better overall experience in all games and not just in some for just a small drop of performance in some games.

I'm not going to rush at all I will wait a while before getting anything but happy to see the pc moving forward as always and unless AMD pull out a game changer Nvidia are not going to rush any new cards out for a long as they can.

You'll always be chasing upgrades for 4k performance, at least for a couple/few gens.. Like i said before this will only catch up on PC either when or just before consoles get it imo.

Does anyone have an idea when partner versions will likely be released? I am keen on the possibility of additional 6/8 pin power being the route to better OC'ing...

Cheers
Ben

Don't have time to wade through that video. Just take a look at review sites like Anandtech, the performance is in excess of what nvidia were indicating at launch.

You could also have a look at the gtx980ti overclocked v an overclocked 1080 and see that it's not great for a node shrink. I am open to good cooling improving things but so far the performance ain't great in comparison. Maxwell has loads of headroom and this appears not to. So at stock it looks great but once you use Maxwells headroom it's not great. This is overclockers and not your every day gamer that does not know about the hardware they use.
