** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

cheapest 1080 my bet will be £499 from the partners company like this one

I'd rather poo in my hands and clap than use that card, looks like throttle city.

Well, personally having just as much sense as I have money, I will be voting with my wallet and not buying a gtx 1080 for £620 :p

And if there are enough like-minded individuals, watch the price come tumbling down.

If enough people boycott this product, watch nvidia panic and the price will be £500 before you even know it.

This guy knows what's up.
I'll wait.

Nvidia are have gone past taking the urine and are just being rude now.

It's similar to the gaming preorder fiasco. People keep throwing money at devs before they've even finished the game and wonder why they turn up s***

Have to love it when a "staff member" asks this on a forum....

btw price gouging, not gauging...

i know right gauging the gouging is the next step up taking important data re just how far gouging can be applied :)

In terms of 'people will pay anything', 'more money than sense' etc, I think we forget that some individuals have been waiting for an opportunity to upgrade for maybe even more than 2 generations. So while from the perspective of this forum who generally keep up to date on their hardware the 1080 may seem overpriced for such a marginal gain, to others the utility of this card will likely be greater than to those who own 980 or 980Tis. I for one have a 570 SLI set up on a 1440p screen so I will happily pay a premium to get out of the miserable 30fps-on-medium-settings-hell that I endure.

Just a couple of pennies on a different perspective.

I am one also who has not upgraded for 2 generations.

Guess what? I won't be throwing money away here either. I will wait for AMDs competition and price drops, or just waiting for the full-blooded 1080ti which is going to be an absolutely beast of a card. Not this diluted cash-grab.

TwsT is as much an enthusiast as us and good to see him get involved on something he enjoys doing. Low blow picking him up for spelling as well.

You are correct to an extent, but as that price point for new shiny keeps moving northwards, and the value of the older components they are using continues to fall (i.e less resale value), that price gap becomes a chasm and most people are left simply unable or unwilling to purchase at the top end, instead having no choice but to go somewhere in the middle, or look at the second-hand market. You theory only holds if prices for new tech stay relatively steady, but as mentioned they are rising exponentially, way above rate of inflation, and with each generation we are seeing massive increases that are not remotely justified, other than to further cushion Nvidia's (and retailers) bottom line.

I think that's fair enough, and I will definitely be waiting for the partner cards when I do buy a 1080 - for a slightly better value for money option - but one thing I've learnt from buying tech is that there'll always be a better something launching soon and sometimes the temptation to wait can border on obsessive.

I paid around £1100 for 2 780's. This card is faster than 2 780's for £600, if I can get £180-200 for my 780's that's only leaves me £400-450 out of pocket. For a card without the dual card problems.

That's how I'm justifying it anyway :)
