The 1080 is faster in comparison than the 980ti

There I just did.

Of course, no argument there, it's the fastest card you can (or will soon be able to) buy... but that doesn't change it's position in the overall line-up. It's like calling a Golf GTI the top of the range car VW make and inflating the price accordingly, when there's an R due out in 6 months, which then justifies charging even more for that. Before you know it, you're paying 20-30% more for the equivalent product, WAY BEYOND and above rate of inflation. What Nvidia are doing here is so transparent, and it's a license to print money. The 1080Ti will now easily hit £800, then when the HBM2 cards land, they'll be £1K. It never ends, at every turn we get less for more, and yet we THANK them for it. We live in a MAD MAD world!

I wonder what this will do the the TI price. Part of what made the 980TI good was its good price/performance ratio. The Titan is going to be even more ridiculous money.

I was just answering you.. I have done the same really many times over with technology.. but have got a bit wiser over the years on when to upgrade and ..

I've had a 780 for 2 years...

I've been sensible long enough...

I fancy some new tech action...

Is it wise? Hell no!!!!

But sometimes in life sensible is dull

C'est la vie :p

The 1080 is faster in comparison than the 980ti

There I just did.

On a new node with a chip close to half the size. A new node where we should be getting a chip with way faster performance. A 980ti is no where near it's full potential at stock clocks. The 1080 appears to be clocked up near to full potential which makes it look good. In reality against a decent 980ti it's not much of an improvement. Anyone that can't see this is in blind denial mode. At £620 this card makes no sense when you consider the chip size. Nvidia will be laughing all the way to the bank at every sale. It's a shame as we will all be made to pay more no matter what tier we buy in. Hopefully Amd bring in something to stop this madness.

I thought Titan was madness but at least it was true top end. Mid range at £620 is setting all PC gamers up to get fleeced.

Exactly, the £620 price in reality might be close to £700 when they come up for sale or pre-order .

I know how fast the 980ti's sold the 980's sold the titan X's sold

Every NV release we have a call for boycott and this moaning about pricing comes up.

It's been like this for a long time, people will continue to pay. Just look at smart phones. We all get 24 month contracts yet they release phones every year.......People buy them.

I've been waiting 2 months now with a complete new PC and only an NVS510.

Really wanted to buy a 1080GTX but my budget is £500, and I considered that pushing the boat out. NV can go and do one, I'll see what AMD's offerings are and if the NV cards drop in price once availability stabilises.

You'd have to be a mug to pay >£600 for a 1080.

I bought an Iphone 6 unlocked for 600

I still have it

I don't need an upgrade.

What I do need is more grunt to run my X34 so for me its worth it.

This thread is getting a bit silly now. I feel we all agree that the price is massively inflated but don't forget that the non founders card is $100 cheaper and AIB's will be in competition as well. I will see exactly what prices are on launch and go with what I feel is fair to my budget, albeit I will know I am paying over the top prices.

Realistic.

Moaning about Price will change nothing...Its wasted energy.

Just don't buy

Its that simple.

If that's your argument, then one could ask, is it energy well spent posting dozen's of messages here on a daily basis? If so, maybe I should consider becoming a regular. Lol :p

In terms of 'people will pay anything', 'more money than sense' etc, I think we forget that some individuals have been waiting for an opportunity to upgrade for maybe even more than 2 generations. So while from the perspective of this forum who generally keep up to date on their hardware the 1080 may seem overpriced for such a marginal gain, to others the utility of this card will likely be greater than to those who own 980 or 980Tis. I for one have a 570 SLI set up on a 1440p screen so I will happily pay a premium to get out of the miserable 30fps-on-medium-settings-hell that I endure.

Just a couple of pennies on a different perspective.

cheapest 1080 my bet will be £499 from the partners company like this one

It hasn't though, not REALLY. It is a relatively new phenomena that has seen the disposable culture we live in take on such an insane approach to pricing, and in reality how long can this really continue?? When the 1080Ti is released at prices around £800... which let's be honest, it WILL be based on the 1080 price... and then the HBM2 cards at £1K, again highly likely... do you HONESTLY think that is sustainable? The % of consumers willing to play this game will dwindle year on year, before you're left with a very small tech elite consisting of lottery winners and those with rich parents as the only people able to afford these products! Can manufacturers and retailers not see beyond the end of your balance sheets lol??! It's pure greed and is not a sustainable model, it really isn't!
