The 1080 is faster in comparison than the 980ti

Of course, no argument there, it's the fastest card you can (or will soon be able to) buy... but that doesn't change it's position in the overall line-up. It's like calling a Golf GTI the top of the range car VW make and inflating the price accordingly, when there's an R due out in 6 months, which then justifies charging even more for that. Before you know it, you're paying 20-30% more for the equivalent product, WAY BEYOND and above rate of inflation. What Nvidia are doing here is so transparent, and it's a license to print money. The 1080Ti will now easily hit £800, then when the HBM2 cards land, they'll be £1K. It never ends, at every turn we get less for more, and yet we THANK them for it. We live in a MAD MAD world!
