** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

The price for every new card has been creeping up for a while now, and people can't see this?

I guess the more suckers buying these, the more will be on the members market at the end of the year for half the price when the ti version comes out at £700.

However much you make these silly statements doesn't make them true.

Prices of the fastest GoU have been static or even fallen slightly in the last 20 years. The 1080 is exactly inline with all previous launches

And the 1180 will be faster than the 1080ti?

Do you get it?

But each new card should be faster than the last

Doesn't mean they should whack an extra £100 on the price each time they release one

At this rate it won't be long before you're looking at £1000 for the latest non ti vanilla nvidia card! And you're ok with this?

It's people like you who are allowing them to do this!

Do you get it?

Yup, its always the same, just look at how well the TX sold for a grand. :p

If you want them to reduce the prices, then don't buy em, just leave the buggers on the shelves :D

This.

The top end cards have often been insane prices, over $1000 routinely in todays money. The fact is that you can get always 90% of the performance for a lot less money.

If you wait you get more performance for less money. Be impatient and pay the higher price.

Actually not, the price has stayed static. What you are seeing is called inflation.

Funny how inflation hasn't effected the TV market where prices have been static if not lower over the last ten or so years. Tech is evolving in that market just as it is in the gpu market. Maybe it's because there isn't two players or one dominant player in the display market but multiple players which keeps prices from rising.

I suppose a sex swing can alleviate that problem. :p

You talk too much about this anal stuff.... Something you wish to tell us? :p

Buying a new gpu these days is like a porn star (on the receiving end) preparing for an anal scene...

Don't have too much of a problem with the price as such but more this business model now of releasing the mid-range first and pricing it as the top end. It's the fastest so fair enough but it seems really cynical.

As always, the retailers need to take some responsibility as well. When a new T.V is released, John Lewis or whoever don't add money on to the MRP based on what they think availability or demand is going to be.

That final 10% costs in every aspect.

If the senn HD800 at $1000 are 100%
and most peoples HD598 at $150 are 90%

Whilst you're right 99.999999999% of people will be more than happy with the 598's if you want that extra detail that extra bit that w/e you want to call it. You pay for it.

It's upto every consumer as an individual to decide the value of an item to them. If it's not worth it then they shouldn't buy it.

Looking over this thread seems no one is even sure on price. Roll on next week then. But its looking like £1000 will not be enough for two.

I said weeks ago £620 and that is about what they will be.

Enough people will pay it for nvidia to release the ti version for £700 near Christmas time.

Personally, I'm out of the buying latest gen GPU game until prices return to a more realistic level.

The NDL (Nvidia defence league) will always defend Nvidia no matter what and will always line Nvidia's pockets and give them record sales. This is never going to change at all.

Its not such a great analogy though - you could easily have the HD800 for 10 years and still get a reasonable resale value after that time.

My Musical Fidelity XA200R cost me £500 and I got around £350 for it a decade later.

The GTX1080 will look old hat in a year or so and the resale value will have crashed by then.

:p

For me personally, if this exact card was being released by AMD, I would be getting it, even at this overpriced amount.

Just like the 780, 780Ti, 980Ti etc

If you want it buy it, live for today and enjoy it. A faster card will always be on the horizon, we all know this. I remember my mate laughing when I paid £500 for a card, "waste of money" he chortled as he ordered yet another pint and nipped out for his fifteenth fag :D

You hit the nail on the head there with several competing tv manufacturers.

But again you always pay for the new tech...look at oled tvs. A 55" one is around £2 to £3k and were £20k when first launched.

Even at £2k they are still double the cost of a decent "old tech" led tv.

I made the comparison with TVs and got shot down :p

I only paid £1150 for my oled TV which I regard as decent value for money.

The TV market has lots of players and competition though...
