** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

What the heck is the VR woman doing in this. It made me laugh. Have a look from about 4:40 she looks so excited to be in VR its amazing. Limp lettuce has more life !
Then check out 5:18 when she takes the headset off and looks round. It like she didn't realise she was on stage and it looks like she's thinking "where the heck am I and who are these stupid men"?
I didnt watch it from the beginning but its very funny around 5:55 when they are trying to explain the $100 dollar difference with the VR women just stood there looking silly.

:D

Yep, as there isn't going to be a Ti, the 1080s the high end card :p

It's about as high end as every other Nv card that was mid range. 6600/7600/8600/9600/260/460. It's effectively the same but released first. Waste some money but as Tommy said in another thread don't expect us to fall for this rubbish.

It looks like they pushed the clocks to gain some ground but it's not fooling anybody that cares about money.

this

Exactly...

So would not surprise me seeing them partners coming in at £699 +
i know its an exaggeration but from what i am seeing and hearing its looking to be the case....however peeps will still justify buying them ...this is crazy just crazy..

Paying the kind of money they want for the "Founders Edition" (initial production with high defectivity) is absolute madness. NVIDIA reference designs are hugely cost cut.

It's using really crappy 6 phase power regulation 5, plus 1 for memory, for a card that boosts upwards of 1.7Ghz and which according to initial tests can draw as much as 300W under some loads (vastly exceeding its stated TDP). These cards are going to die or degrade so damned quickly.

Non-reference will be cheaper and much better, and weeks (or months) later from less defective non-initial production. Also, AMD cards will all be on the market by then (except Vega), so prices won't be as high anyway.

You're getting a crap card at a huge mark-up if you buy a Founders Edition.

I am not sure 300 watt can be pulled down one rail 6 pin .....but i am no expert power gpu atx engineer ....

But the FE is built to a higher spec with trusted components and a premium cooler!!!! That's what the nvidia man says so it must be worth the premium!!! ;)

Higher spec than the already dead test units in the engineers' labs, perhaps.

Given the sky high clocks and hugely exceeded stated TDP combined with very poor power regulation, there are likely to be a ton of blown VRMs and GPUs that die very early and very quickly.

Couple of sites have had test cards reaching peak wattage of 300W briefly.

Sustained power draws of 220-260W have been common.

That's miles over the 180W TDP.

Just parcel'd up my 970 ready to be sent to the buyer...

Ready for the used 980Ti or 1080 purchase once my deadlines are done in a months time. Should be a decent range of AIB 1080 cards to have a look at by then too!

Now I have to suffer with Intel HD 4600 until then :( Good job I have exams to occupy myself haha

There's so much off-topic discussion here and I can't help but contribute in my usual way.

Intel and Nvidia and Apple are all drinking the same Kool-Aid.. They are taking the micky selling what really is a mid range part in their selection at what was high end parts prices only a couple of years ago at max.

You forgot Nintendo mate. I can't believe the price of the latest version of the 3DS is almost the same as the price of the basic white WiiU. And then the WiiU itself... I know I paid the early adopters fee for that (paid ~£350 for a bundle including 2 games and the pro controller in the first year).

But it's mostly with their handhelds, they are getting away with highway robbery thanks to no competition from the Vita. What does it really cost? Take a look at the 2DS, the latest model isn't too much different yet the price is almost double!

Nvidia has nothing on Nintendo as to 'price-gouging'. And the funniest part? People are completely unaware of it from Nintendo lol. Goes to show that it would be a whole lot worse if AMD weren't around.

It's similar to the gaming preorder fiasco. People keep throwing money at devs before they've even finished the game and wonder why they turn up s***

Hey at least things are better with GPUs in that respect. At least we have gotten 1080 reviews well in advance of release date and before pre-orders are up even. But as for video games, I agree that pre-orders are a terrible idea when games can release in terrible states. Just this week the new Doom game ran terribly on AMD, but thankfully after 5 days AMD released a driver to fix the issues.

As for the other things going on the video game industry? Sure a lot of them are bad, but the last 10 minutes of this video really put things into perspective for me.

I remember buying stuff many many years ago and getting over two dollars to the pound, how I wish those times would return.

I'm no expert on economy or finance, but strong currency is a double-edged sword from what I've seen. The strength of a currency somewhat scales with the cost of living and the salaries in a country. Things may be cheaper over in the US, but it's partially due to average wages being a bit less. Other things like taxes are involved too, if our wages didn't take into account the 20% VAT, we'd be screwed.

I'm not going into details because I honestly don't know much more. But I do know that folks like to come to the UK to work and then take their earnings back home where it's worth a lot more. A person peeling potatoes in the UK might be well-off when they go back to their country.

Some folks are forgetting that inflation is a thing and those on the other side are also forgetting that the economy isn't so great these days, what with salaries not quite keeping up with increased cost of living. Not to mention what it's like trying to find a job, it doesn't matter that I have good GCSEs, A-levels and a science degree, the best I've been able to find is a base-level job not too far off from minimum wage roughly a year after I finished uni. And I'm grateful to have even that. I've heard similar stories, even from 10+ years back from people who similarly were into PCs.

Disposable income varies per individual, but usually those who can't afford it won't be into the hobby of upgrading GPU's very often. It's kinda balanced in that regard. I can't afford to buy a new GPU every year, so I won't. I want to complain about things and often I do. But deep down I know that it won't make a difference. Whether I accept the pricing of the 1080 or not, the world moves on. Not to mention I was never interested in the 1080 in the first place, so it works out even better for me :)
