** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

Exactly, why would AIBs sell the reference 1080 for more than their custom cooled editions that run better due to far superior cooling solutions.

FE edition £620
MSI Gaming edition with custom cooling and higher boost clocks and far more sustainable OC. £520

I just don't see it happening.

I do think they'll actually be cheaper, but it will be because the early adopters tax will go away once there is actually supply. IE today a MSI custom cooled card wouldn't be £520, but 1-2 months from now the reference card will either become unavailable(except for existing stock, which won't be much) or it will drop to say £480, at which point a custom card at £520 is still more expensive.

I think once Polaris 10 hits, in volume and extremely competitive with the 1070 if not beating it and when 1080 has actual real supply, it will be £450 or less and will drop further once the 1080ti comes out but that probably won't be till Q2 or Q3 next year.

The Founder Edition IS the reference edition.

It's just a lot more expensive than it used to be.

The rational is that Nvidia don;t undercut their partners, who can come in with custom cards at a lower price (£550 etc)

The truth is that they will price them the same or higher, and we will be paying £650 for a Gigabyte G1 1080

Hope i'm totally wrong lol

Yes, I know the founder edition is the reference edition.

I want to know where the $599 edition is, in the video a few pages back the Nvidia guy said that both editions would be available on the same day. That people would have a choice..

the 390 smashes the 970 yet in doom 4 the 970 smashes the 390 :p

they close to each other its just who has worked with who while making the game or gave them a few million for the extra frames :D

if the 1070 is as fast as the 980ti or just under its £400 minimum.

It is all in people's head. I was reading this article:
http://wccftech.com/amd-takes-gpu-share-nvidia-q1-2016/

Interestingly, JPR found that only 15% of all GPUs sold are priced at $349 or higher. And of that 15% only 3% are priced at $449 or higher. This means that AMD’s Polaris GPUs are aimed at market segments where the volumes are inherently significantly larger compared to Nvidia’s GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.

So,97% of all cards sold are under $449.

That would be roughly £360 with VAT here.

85% are under £300.

This means the GTX1070 pricing might be not as random as people think.

I hope people buy the cheaper AIB cards - at least around £500ish is what the GTX980TI and Fury X launched for and it will put an upper limit on card costs.

If the minimum upper tier becomes £600 we are frakked.

The same happens every year, everyone is upset with the price yet buys one anyway, 12 months later a new card comes out, people moan and still buy it. :p

I think at launch, people were actually pleasantly surprised by the 970/980 pricing and performance.
Pricing and performance is pretty linear from 970 -> 980 - 980Ti ->1080. i.e. as they increase in relative performance, they increase in proportional cost. But yeah, got to say I was hoping that it'd be another 970/980 moment where the cards were released with both amazing performance and amazing price.

But hopefully the GTX1070 should be an OK price, right??

not really 390 out performs the 970 in the vast majority of games, and beats it across the board in 1440p.
Doom 4 isn't even a DX game it's an OpenGL game, Nvidia is much better at it than AMD, and latest driver gave 35% more perf for the 390, and it's not like it matters, we have like what 1 openGL game every 5 years ?
when vulkan version of doom comes out, the 390 will probably be significantly ahead.

Come on. Nvidia have shown their cards. The mask is off. Yes 1070 's in Sli will destroy 1080 but we all know that it's going to cost over £450. The writing is on the wall people! The die is cast.

looks like the team at Galax got there black markers out to cover that awful clown head that was on the box..
