Seems like the average sustained overclock in the reviews gives the 1080 about a 10% boost to actual framerates, with my TX overclock I get a 20% boost and I suspect the average 980Ti gets around that as well so can't really understand why anyone would ditch a Ti or a TX to jump to a 1080.

Unless of course they just want to play with the new shiny, which I totally understand.
 
And in terms of price, the only reason we are seeing MSRP of £620 is because there is no competition.

The exact same situation happened with the 680 launch in terms of performance boost compared to previous gen due to a die shrink and that was selling for just over £400 (I actually bought mine on release day for £385 due to a discount code). The only reason the 680 was so 'cheap' was because AMD already had the 7970 out.

Real world results over time, given the 1080 seems to get about 10% framerate boost from its overclock that means at 4k it's basically equal to TX, 8% faster than 980Ti and 15% faster than Fury X (erroneously labelled as stock)

It will be interesting to watch a 1080 on the heaven 4 bench @2160p with max settings. This is enough to make even watercooled cards get a bit toasty.:D
 
how long does a run take?.

Never timed it but it is about 4mins.

Some people don't like using it because their cards fail 3/4 of the way round due to heat.

It is a lot more stressful than the Firestrike stage tests which are only 42 seconds long maximum.

Never use a reference cooler. It is known. I certainly would put it under water, but only a card that wasn't power limited (but 20% difference really isn't that much of an improvement over the GTX 980 Ti, but that might increase in DX12 games). Really not sure what to do at the moment, as I just want something that is fast enough for 1440p, but not expensive at all, to last me until Vega/GTX 1080 Ti. Was thinking about a 290x, but man those second hand prices here are insane. Hoping that Polaris delivers now!

I find this ironic considering how some were suggesting that the cooler for the Pro Duo would be/is inadequate. Those 1440p results are shocking, why do we not see this mentioned in the conclusions of reviews.

This is all regardless of the x80Ti style pricing for a x80 product. Madness. The most interesting part of the video was the overclocking; it doesn't seem as good as Maxwell at overclocking, and doesn't make as much gains when doing so (although does increase 40w). Perhaps that story from a while ago about the problems with Pascal were warranted?

This was posted a while back. Stock vs stock and OC vs OC. All be it only 2025mhz for the 1080. Custom cards should push a few hundred MHz over ref.

Well Polaris probably won't be comparable to the 1080... Sooooo....

No big deal for me personally. These are mid range cards, they don't even have hbm2 (no fun). Will pick up something sub £300 and sell it and buy one of the big guns :p

Besides, a single Polaris/1070 should be able to handle 2560x1440 with easy. And as 1080 can't handle 4K sooooo...

That said, there are a handful of people out there on super wide 3440x1440, I suppose 1080 would make a perfect card for them :p
 
Anyone changed their mind and taking the 1080 plunge?

If so, whats it like being rich and can I ride in your helicopter?

Likely still buying 2. Depends on price £550-£600 is my limit. My Ti's were £575. If AIB cards cost a chunk more then no thanks.

Sell my Ti's for £400 ish with blocks. Done some overtime recently so the rest is history :D

No helicopter yet though :p
