But as far as I know 1500mhz is a very rare thing, normally they are about 1400-1450. 1500mhz titan X would be a lucky chip + watercooling.

This is part of the problem with all these comparisons. Everyone is often comparing the reference 1080 to the max overclocks of the 980 Ti and Titan, as if all Titans and 980Ti's will give you 1500mhz or more out of the box 100% stable in all games.

True. 2025 is still relatively mild though. Gamers nexus managed nearly 2.2ghz by just adding a hybrid cooler. AIB cards may well see 2.3-2.4ghz.

Just have to wait and see what they can do and what that translates to perf wise

people always compared what suit them best to justify their choices . remember when 980ti released and keep saying its faster than Titan X because compared 980Ti OC with stock TX.

Just looking at Kitguru's review of the card with a Gigabyte 980Ti as comparison, marginal difference.

Are there people genuinely considering upgrading from a 980Ti? Absolute waste of money.

The Pascal Ti only has me interested now purely because of HBM2, otherwise Volta will be my next upgrade.

Too early to call. IF there are AIB ones which do up to 2,5Ghz then it will be back to being 20 to 30% faster than a 980ti.

Some people always want the fastest ;)

I don't think Pascal Ti will be HBM2 . my guess that it will still be GDDR5X but Titan will be HBM2 .

You could be right. There are questions to be asked about the gp102 chip. This could easily have a bigger memory bus and gddrx 5 which would give a decent boost in Bandwidth. Thing with this theory is HBM2 comes with power usage benefits and it does not look like the 1080 is that great in power usage for a 16nm design. Even then if AMD was on a similar performance and Nvidia used more power there sales probably would not suffer.

EVGA GTX 1080, Superclocked, FTW, Classified, Hybrid and Hydro Copper versions of the GPU coming. I hope it's on the 27th?

EVGA has already said on its forums that they have cards lined up but not all will be available at the start.

They cant say anymore due to a stupid NDA which I can only think is there so people will be the FE cause they cant wait/don't know whats coming.

IF EVGA had the full list up which 2.2+ boosts listed, nobody would be even looking at a FE edition.

Do we have any idea yet what the non-FE 1080 cards will really cost? I've seen everything from £425-£650.

If I were to buy it wont be the FE cards. Custom only, Superclocked, FTW or Classified.

If EVGA release hybrids within the 90 days of my purchase and they are on the trade up scheme, I may take the plunge. However would want a serious improvement in speed, which I doubt I will get.

It is entirely illogical to think they will be £425, or any price beginning with a '4'. Nothing below £550 I bet, and even that will be for crappy blower style, performing worse than the FE. Everything else will be in, around and north of the FE price. Why anyone thinks they'll get a faster, quieter, cooler and better OC'ing card for significantly less money than the FE is beyond me. If that happens, the FE simply won't sell, which neither Nvidia or the AIB's will have any interest in happening.

I don't think any EVGA cards are custom boards except for the classified and kingpin, they are all reference cards with the ACX cooler on them. Could be different with the 1080 though IDK.

In which case the $599 MSRP is a flat out lie... and the MSRP may as well be $699...

I am hoping zotac or palit etc. bring out some of their cards which are near the $599 msrp and still decent, for example the palit jetstream 980ti is actually a good cooler.

If they have good cards like the G1 etc. at the same as the current FE, I would be interested, but I am not sure if that will happen.

But nvidia keep saying the FE is now a premium card and the MSRP is $599... hopefully there is at least some truth to that.

Is it not entirely possible that the FE cards are just to cover the initial rush and to give third parties a chance to get their own versions ready?

Or am I simply being overly optimistic?

EDIT: And yes, I'm a massive lurker. :)

That was the case in the past, but nvidia are saying the renamed reference card will be available for the lifetime of the product, instead of just being the initial run

Yeah but that's probably because NV already have a surplus of these. They must know that most people don't buy ref cards once alternatives are out there.
