** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

Well that's all great and dandy from a benchers point of view. Not looking as good from a gamers and a practical point of view is it? A 980ti can also do 2GHZ aslwell fact is it can do it.

That is different, I'm not talking about clocking the 1080 to 4ghz under LN2.

Many FE cards can do 2-2.1ghz as a norm on air. High fan profile I'll give you that but I'm talking about ref board here.

I'm a gamer and will be water cooling them with a custom bios, Nothing non practical about that?

Didn't say nothing about them not using a loud fan profile. Fact is FE cards can do 2.1ghz. Like it or not.

Yeah for 1 minute

Now your saying 2ghz so it's dropped. Your going to be really disappointed with your 1080, custom bios and hybrid cooler when you can't hold 2100mhz after 20 mins of TW3. Write back soon and let us know how disappointed you are.

One negative of the 1000 series is indeed the not so amazing overclocking. I can't remember what video it was, but it compared overclocking capability of the 1070/1080, you can' only really get an 11% average overclock which isn't as much as the OCs you could get on Maxwell.

I know that the 1080 has only just released... but anything about the bigger Pascal chips yet? Besides the fact that NV will price it at £700+

I suspect the big Pascal will be held in reserves until Vega is about to hit market. Without any competition in the high end Nvidia won't have much reason to release them any sooner.

Also shows majority of cards even AIB still struggling with the 2.1ghz+

Even with the cooling sorted unless they use a different set of power settings and implementation the 1080 seems to fall back at points on most cards to ~2025MHz even on the good cores under heavier loads due to power target reason.

The more I read, the more I get the sense that the 1080 is an overpriced dud. It's an enthusiast card that appeals more than anything else to those who want and need to be on the bleeding edge, yet it doesn't offer THAT much over a 980Ti (and most of those aforementioned enthusiasts will already have one of those, many even x2), and on top of that it doesn't even OC very well! I can imagine how a lot of people must be quite disappointed and will now simply be looking ahead to the 1080Ti and beyond for the performance they wanted and expected the 1080 to deliver. Still a mighty powerful card of course, and the fastest you can buy, but not as much as was hoped. Nvidia's 'dishonesty' with the OC potential really hasn't helped matters either.

Dud it's not - it's the fastest card available. In fact recent Maxwell purchasers would have been better to have waited for Pascal. The power consumption actually makes it more likely to achieve good FPS for those of us with SFF cases as I normally have to dial back the power target,

Its hardly life changing...And for what ? 600 quid :p

Pascal 1080 is a joke.

And people are lapping it up when they only game at 2k :p

My poll has been very insightful :p

Sadly the small number of 980ti and TX owners seem to believe the world revolves around them and a card must be judged against them only. In fact it must have come as a relief that the 1070 was only equal and the 1080 only 25% better and at much lower power and with extra features too as the moaning would have been horrendous. There's nothing wrong with gaming at 1080 if the IQ and FPS is good and noise low - so Pascal is good for all of us.

Well said mate.

The "know it all" crowd HERE think otherwise. If your happy that's all that matters:)

Notice I said "air". There is a difference between watercooled and air cooled in terms of performance. Or are you just guessing they are the same? I'd expect over 2.1ghz fully watercooled with a custom bios.

Why wouldn't it hold after 20 minutes when both cards are barely scraping 40c?
