Here is my team at the moment, no idea how it will do!

Keeper: Gomes (Taylor)
Defenders: Cahill, Givet, Foley (Lowry, Craddock)
Midfielders: Etherington, N'Zogbia, Cole, Fabregas (Ferguson)
Forwards: Drogba, Jovanovic, Bent

Yeah keepers at average clubs generally don't do too badly because you get 1pt per 3 saves and potentially bonus points if they earn their side a point against a top club with a string of saves. Yes they concede more goals but even if you get creamed 5-0 that's still only -2pts which is counterbalanced by the 2pts for playing 60mins+. The top keepers are of course more likely to get clean sheets but even then the big boys often let the odd goal in. A keeper conceding a single goal is only 1pt better off than a keeper conceding 3, it's not like outfield players where a couple of goals can make a huge difference. It is extremely rare for a keeper (even at an elite club) to get an assist/goal, but not so for defenders, there is a much stronger case for picking top defenders than a top keeper. The points spread is usually fairly small between keepers, last season I started with Foster and Sorensen.

That said, this time around I'm spending slightly more on my keepers.

As for my squad as a whole, I've chopped-and-changed a lot but am not reasonably happy except for my 3rd striker, got up to £6m to spend (possibly £6.5m if I swap a player elsewhere) but just can't seem to get something I'm 100% content with. My heart says Robbie Keane @ £5.5m but my head says something different.

Very happy with my team now, might have some changes after the comm shield game, but the rest of the team looks sorted. Bring on gameweek1!
 
Well I was contemplating using Bent and saving 1.5 for a cheeky swap for RVP after the 1st week, but decided against it so I can have Rooney and deep-sea-Drogba.
 
Anyone else feel that after the WC FF, that this PL FF is lacking? Biggest reason is that players dont get attacking/defending bonuses - I've forgotten how many times last season my players were the best players in the game - making loads of defensive clearances/attacking balls but just because let in 1 silly goal/didnt get the last pass in to make an assist, got only the appearance points.

Will be signing up soon though ;)

Not a great idea. Did you play last season? You'll regularly need to use your subs, so much so I don't really see them as "subs". It really doesn't take long before injuries and random drops/rests make it hard to field a playing 11 when you've got cheap subs.

Yes I did last year, did well for the first half of the season then fell away. It was annoying having good players on the bench who scored more than my starting 11 but I was caught out a few times with injuries. hard to know, every time I look at my team now I make numerous changes!

Do the Arsenal fans think Van Persie will start the first game or will Wenger rest him? I think VP's brilliant but I can't afford 10m for him if he's on the bench?
