It also makes no sense. I am enormously bothered about being taken out of the EU so I sympathise with Scotland but Scotland and England are so strongly linked in terms of trade and infrastructure that if you had to pick which union to be in the case for EU over UK is nonsensical.

Plus let's not forget a sizeable minority of Scots voted leave - 40%!

Yes, I'm sure that argument was made for remaining in the EU too.

The issue is, everything in the financial market is assigned to perceived value and the accompanying perceived risk.

The collective mindset is a perception of high risk remaining for some time. Likely until we agree some fundamental terms with the EU (and potentially beyond)

Until that time, mortgages rates will rise.
Great news for savers then!

"The White House has said that US President Barack Obama stands by comments he made that Britain would move to the "back of the queue" for trade talks in the event of a British exit from the EU, Reuters news agency reports.

Mr Obama made the comments in a visit to the UK in April."

"Credit ratings agency Moody's has changed its outlook on the UK's sovereign rating from "stable" to "negative". "

You can always quit science and get an office job like everyone else does when the wind blows sideways.

Failing that, work in Steel ...it'll come back soon, for awhile.

Or you can get over yourself and realise that Science is bigger than any nation or government and carry on.

Science breakthroughs happened when people threw turds out of their window in a bucket ffs.

Dont be such a *****

Or he can leave the country like many others undoubtedly will be.

And yes, we definitely should be moving away from sciences into steel...

Regarding Scotland, as soon as they voted the morons at the SNP in in droves they effectively voted for independance. The SNP will just keep pushing until they get it, regardless of what is best for the people.

Well said I was a leaver as well in fact my area was the highest in the nation. Even though my mother is not British born and my future wife either. Let alone I manage a group of 100 people who are mainly EU migrants but something has to give. Immigration was at the bottom of my list. The disparity of this country is quite sad with everyone outside London having the opposite view. Yes it is going to be tough and belts will need to be tightened but we will get there in the end and hopefully have a more unified country to show for it.

Nicely said. I live in the south east and to be honest it's almost like no one in politics even acknowledges England exists beyond cambridge.

Not necessarily bad. It could mean we dodge TTIP and get a better, less one-sided deal later on.

Although I voted remain, possibly leaving is the right decision.

However if any of this BBC article is true it sounds like the EU is going to make the process of withdrawal a painful one for the UK in order to put off any other EU member states from leaving.

Yes the basis of a healthy Union is being to scared to leave it.

As for Obama who cares he's going!

Not sure about that. Low(er) interest rates for actual savings.

Higher mortgage rates mean less borrowing power. So even if prices drop, I think the two are likely to cancel out.

I think it will actually make people less likely to sell.

I know, it's a ridiculous idea.

But if the science isn't your main focus, then why bother?

Do you really think they will remove the funding of something so important?

The national lottery pays for art projects that involve putting red glass orbs on shelves. Why do you think the nation will turn its back on discovery?

It won't.

I presume you have no idea how research funding is doled out with that comment...

The referendum vote showed overwhelming support for the EU in Scotland.

No it didn't. It was 60/40, that is absolutely not overwhelming. There is a sizeable proportion of Scots who voted leave.

If only you were right - overwhelming support would have been enough for remain to win.

Was at work, so no idea if this has been done to death, yet,

It begins.

I have a lot of friends out in Munich and Berlin at the moment who are glad they chose to move abroad for work. The UK financial sector seems primed in some areas to move offshore in order to firm up their portfolio and maximise returns.

The net effect for the rest of us will be reduced taxation income for the UK government to spend on public services.

Lets just hope the collective mindset doesn't become too toxic to the UK/London. After all, it is the financial capital of the world. That has to count for something!

No, the UK was spearheading the agreement within the EU. Other countries like France were going to veto it.

We're probably implementing asap but now we hav no one to veto it.

I hate the UK government sometimes. This 2 party system is a shambles and we need to change it now.
