***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Question for you all, I have about 150 sets all in (ranging from £10 ones to the UCS Falcon), I had started off storing the manuals in a stool and the boxes as they are in the loft. After a while the stool ran out of space and I left the manuals in the boxes and then put them in the loft. My loft isnt big enough for this, so I bought some lever arch folders and plastic wallets and have been putting all the manuals into these. I then started bringing all the boxes down out of the attic and flatpacking them. As I did this I realised I had made a mistake leaving the manuals in the ones I had because although the boxes are fine and the manuals themselves are generally fine, where the glue parts are has been affected and now a lot of them dont open properly (this isnt related to my question though, as its my own fault and something ill just be honest about if/when I sell that set). I now have a pile of flat boxes which I plan to organise into themes, bag and then put back in the loft.

My questions (realised I had two as I typed) are

1. Would you keep all the boxes, even the ones for the £10-£20 sets or just those over a certain RRP.
2. Does anyone else keep all the little 1x1 extras you get in sets to then go with that set if/when you sell, or do all spares just go into a big centralised bucket. I ask as I have over a hundred little bags of extras that are all labelled with the set number and wondering whether its worth keeping them like that or just saying "okay these are no longer part of this set"

Cheers
I've also got all the old boxes up in the loft, I just stuff the smaller boxes into the larger ones to save space.

As for the spares they all go into a single tub, if I ever wanted to sell a model or strip for rebuild etc I'd just reconcile the parts against the list in the manual and not worry about spares which have come in handy at times for anything lost.

Just ordered the Seinfield set off Lego.com as 8ts retir8ng soon and currently 30% off making it £48.99.

I had £20 in vouchers I redeemed on Black Friday and added another £5 us8ng some points. Taking it to £28 including delivery. Not too bad. I still have over 4000 points which I'll keep as buying a couple of bigger sets next month.

I’m 100% in the minority here so take this as a complete pinch of salt. I get the box and stick it in the recycling. Lay the bag(s) out on the table in order. Once i’m finished with the books, they too get launched in the recycling bin.

I’ll now be launching the books in the bin straight away - once I’ve removed any sticker sheets and using the app on the iPad. Spares go into a tub that I’ve never ever ever looked or open unless it’s to fill with the remains of my latest build.

Realistically are you actually planning on selling anyway? If you want to make money out of them just double up the sets, keep it sealed in a box and sell it once it’s obsolete for a few years. Personally can’t be arsed with the hassle there are better ways to make money over the same time period.

I throw away the bags now and flatten the boxes.
I used to keep all the bags in the boxes and maintained their shape but I just don't have the space.
Manuals are all kept together somewhere, but don't ask me where :p

Managed to order a new and sealed Defender for a decent price on BrickLink. Ordered on the 28th of December. seller shipped on the 29th, Evri made an arse of it on the 30th, and I still don't have it. We had some proper bad rain on the 30th so the tracking stated that it couldn't be delivered due to the weather which was fair enough as most of Fife was under water. Tracking still hasn't been updated so contacted the seller - who has been brilliant - updated me yesterday that Evri aren't sure what's happening and are 'looking for it' apparently so it looks like it's potentially gone. :(

So the useless ***** at Evri have indeed lost it or someone's stolen it. Looks like the chances of getting another new and sealed Defender at a decent price is pretty much 0%. Seemed to have jumped up massively in price over the last couple of weeks.

Is there any way to get notifications about sets that are retiring? If I'd known about the Defender, I would have got one sooner. Even more annoying that they had them in Costco for a steal before Christmas and I didn't realise. :(

Whenever a set goes on sale at a price that you do a double take.

Take that as a sign that set is due to be retired soon, if especially it's been out over a year.

Generally at year end.
It has been known for a while (half year at least) that lego defender was going at years end.

Brick fanatics seem good.

Just Google

"lego retiring 2022"
Google news tab
Find brick fanatics link

Best bet now is to set up an ebay alert at your chosen price point.
People do sometimes sell at near Rrp.

Big licences Lego sets tend to be around for 2 years (give or take 3 months), that’s the general rule. The exception is sets that sell really well (Saturn V) or really big UCS models (Falcon etc).

Thanks for the info! I'm relatively new to collecting Lego so wasn't sure about how retiring works etc. I'm going to Costco on Sunday so I'm hoping they might have some there, I'd be surprised though.

I'll take it as a lesson learned the hard way. :)
