** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I'm sure Filco Cherry MX keycaps will fit on my Ducky fine, but does anyone know if the keys are all the same height? I'm looking to get some blue WASD and Esc keycaps.

Not all keys are uniform.

Most from custom key manufacturers are made so they wouldn't be a bother if used in the majority of keyboards.

I got my RMA replacement QPAD MK-80 from OCUK the other day. Been using it for a couple of days and it's so nice to have it back. The previous one had a problem with the USB HUB. It just stopped working and windows kept trying to install it but would not detect it properly. OCUK confirmed it was faulty and sent me another one.

Such a nice keyboard. It's really minimal in its design and aesthetics. If you turn the backlight off completely it looks like an average keyboard really. Quality look but nice and plain which I like. I think the lights around the numlock/scroll/caps keys are also nicely done.

The feel of the brown switches are really nice. I still think I might experiment with a dampener underneath the spacebar, but otherwise really loving it. I just hope it lasts now. I hate products that don't last. I really hope they have not tried to pack LED back lighting and USB hub in "on the cheap". I just want it to last years. :o)

Just received my Ducky Shine 2, Brown Switches, Blue LEDs.

Easily the best keyboard I've ever layed hands on, the build quality is superb, really solid and actually quite heavy, keys are firm with very little play in them. LED settings are cool though gimmicky, however they work very well and are a nice little extra. The ability to do things like lock out the windows keys or swap certain keys around with the flick of an actual switch is brilliant. Another nice feature is that the caps/scroll/numlock keys only light up if they are active, they are a locked at the max brightness and seeing as I use the lowest brightness setting, they are quite obviously noticeable.

First time using Brown switches, have to sway I really like them, decent "click" but not as violent as Blues which I had before, nice to type on and not too hard to press which is my issue with blacks.

Another cool touch is the ducky symbols in place of the windows keys and on the space bar, very nice.

The 4 preset macro keys to open the calculator, my comp, outlook and default web browser are also a nice touch.

Over all a 10/10 keyboard and I'm glad I splashed out a bit on it, well worth the price tag.

I got the upgrade bug recently and this thread has been really handy. I ended up getting a Qpad MK-85 with reds. I might live to regret the choice of switch, but there's nothing like a foolhardy purchase to quicken the blood. I think Blacks or Browns would have been a safer purchase but where is the "fun" in that.

Has anyone else recently gone from an el cheapo keyboard straight to reds and if so how harsh was the adjustment?

I bought a Qpad mk-50 with red switches and found them way too light for typing and gaming.

I kept hitting the wrong keys and you cant rest your fingers on the keys without the keyboard picking it up. I dont think I would ever get used to that after 10+ years of plastic dome usage.

I had a chance to use brown's too, but I found them too light also.

Are MX Black's the way to go? (e.g. Steelseries 6gv2..)

Filco Majestouch 2 Cherry MX Red, just ordered. With blue WASD keys and a red filco ESC key to add a bit of colour to an otherwise plain keyboard. Can't wait!

Sacriledge! Needs to be entirely black! Tempted now to buy a tenkeyless blue switched one. Currently have the full size one with browns.

I'm I the only one here who hates mechanical keyboards? (hides)
I'm using a Logitech K360, which is the best typing experience I have had so far (I've tried all types of mechanical's and they where just horrible, I don't like the high keys...)

Hey guys. Just noticed this thread and i have a question which is related.

Im looking to do lets play with a friend and i have recently purchased a very good mic. My only problem is if i play games which require me to use my keyboard a lot, my typing is picked up on the mic. I currently use a logitech G15 but im looking to purchase a mechanical keyboard. Is it possible to get a silent mechanical keyboard? If so what would you reccommend?

Thanks :D

You can get a "silent" mech keyboard if you get black/red/brown switches and you don't bottom out (just press them enough to actuate the key)

Buy a PC360 headset which cancels out the background noise.

Stop being 'That Guy' that refuses to use push-to-talk.

I guess i didnt clarify my question enough as some of you misunderstood.

We are planning to do a "Lets Play" sort of a youtube series where we talking about new games while playing them. I have bought a new mic which is fantastic and picks up my voice very clearly but despite it being set up to only pick up sound in front of it it does still pick up some noise while im typing. This is not a problem for most games; as i can edit it out, but for the ones which require me to press keys while talking it can be a problem.

My current keyboard is quite loud but i know you can get silent keyboards but im not sure which ones you would all reccommend?

For silence you won't find a suitable mechanical kb I'm afraid.

You're best off with a keyboard with low profile keys, chiclets would be ideal.

Although not a gaming keyboard the Logitech K750 I know to be very quiet, but depending on your typing style you may never achieve silence with your typing.
