** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I'm currently deciding between (I think) the QPAD MK-85 and Logitech G710+, anyone had both? What do you folks think?

The Logitech seems decent on paper but doesn't appear to be very popular?

Price doesn't matter.

For that kind of price you want to be looking at the Corsair K70/K95. I've had the MK-85 and the build quality has much to be desired. No idea on the Logitech but it does seem to be avoided by most (Probably for a good reason).

Really?! Everything I've read about the MK-85 has been mostly positive, especially with regards to the build quality.

What makes the K95 better?

I've got an MK-85 with red switches. It's my first mechanical keyboard so I can't compare it to anything but I think it's excellent, well worth the money imo.Got the red switches for the silence.
Only had it 6 weeks or so but the build quality is great.

I've just got the MK-85 red switches delivered this morning. I'm liking it much better than the zowie brown switches.

Keys are lighter and just feel a lot better. The feedback was barely noticeable on the browns anyway. I can fly across these red keys at 70 words a min.

Extra features are good too, not sure if I will use the macros.

Hi All,

any +1 for the CM Storm QuickFire Rapid TK ?

I would like a k70 but dont really want to spend £120 on a keyboard just yet.

This'll be my first mechanical keyboard, mostly gaming but also typing and regular use. im thinking brown switches ?

The Corsair K70 is sounding quite interesting.

I've got 2 quick fire TKs with brown switches and love them, seem very well built and quite cheap. I really like brown swtiches, get far fewer accidental keystrokes than i did with reds and i like the amount of pressure they need, they have a nice solid feel to them.

Had an MK85 before with red switchs (which were too soft for my liking) but that died within a few months.

The G710+ is a solid keyboard, but not popular. For the K70/K95, MX Reds are far too light (IMO) to be any use apart from gaming.

Personally, if you aren't too bothered by cost, a Filco would suit you well. A tenkeyless will give you some extra space on your desk, as well as give you something even more rigid than the desk itself. A proper layout, without any extra pieces 'tacked' onto the keyboard, NKRO (face roll typing) & Costar stabilisers make it a very nice experience.

Hi All,

I've had a good search on the forums and was unable to find any details, so I'll query here.

Have any of you purchased red key caps for replacing worn keys on your mechanical unit? I currently have a Steelseries 7G and the WASD keys are starting to shine a little.

I was looking at the metal ones on the OC page but was wondering if any red ones had been available at anytime? I think that looks a more stylish for the OCD in me on an all-black keyboard.

Head over to ebay and type in 'Cherry Key caps' you'll find a bunch there.

Seems like sourcing Brown switches is becoming quite difficult.

I am struggling to find any keyboards with brown switches. Reds seem to be everywhere, as well as Blacks.

Brown switches are found on G710, Celeritas, QuickFire TK (some Rapids), Filco, etc. They had a huge shortage, but it does seem to be recovering now.

The QPad keyboard internals are found on many other mechanical keyboards under various names, and have been around quite a bit. Personally I'd go for either CM's range or Filco. Both are very good keyboards, available in a variety of switches.
