** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I've just had a play with the G710+ and it feels exceptionally well made, I was quite surprised. The brown switches seem good and are suitably quiet (as it has dampeners too). The enter key was full size too, in all the pictures I've seen it's the smaller size...

Need to test out a QPAD MK-85 next...

I've noticed that the QPAD MK-85 is essentially a mass produced keyboard that several different companies rebadge and sell. That's certainly put a doubt in my mind over the build quality and reliability of it (as quite a lot of people have had issues it appears), especially next to the Logitech G710+ which feels bulletproof. The keyboards in question are the X-Armor U9BL and the Max Keyboard Nighthawk.

Hmmm.

Ah, I did not know this. The K70 does look like it has much better build quality solely from watching the video reviews. K70 it is.

I really fancied a Ducky Shine 2 but the fact it doesn't come with a wrist rest as standard is lame.

Yes I think the K70 is definitely going to be better than the MK-85. The more I study the MK-85, the less I like it.

I do think I'm going to go for the Logitech G710+ though myself, if I couldn't get that it would be the K70 for sure I reckon. I can get itNO! as well which is pretty nice. I had a good play with it in the shop and thought it was awesome.

I also like wrist rests, I can't get by without one! :p I'm so used to it on my G19.

DO NOT hint at competitor pricing - Rilot

Just received my K70 and I thought I would give you my initial thoughts after using a Filco for the last 2 years.

I was expecting the build quality to be lower than the Filco but it isn't and is definitely on par. Nice weighty keyboard that oozes quality.

My Filco uses brown keys and I much prefer the action of the red keys. I was expecting the reds to be lighter but if anything they are much stiffer. This could be down to the keys being new, certainly a lot quieter.

No issues with sticking keys and the backlight is even.

Overall very impressed and ticks all the boxes that were missing on the Filco. Backlight, media keys. The palm rest is nice and the fact they bundle additional keys and the puller is a nice touch.

10/10

It's strange, I found this too. Moving from my MK-85 with red switches to the K70 there is a noticeable stiffer feel to the K70 red switches. I'm assuming this is down to the fact they are new mixed with the fact the key cap plastic is thicker.

Or maybe they revised the switch to stop it bottoming out?

What ever they have done the K70 red switch is very close to a brown switch without the noise. I like it.

It's subjective really, depends what you need from it. Personally I'd never touch a Razer keyboard, their support/build quality aren't anywhere near on par with Corsair.

The Razer uses brown switches, which are considered the middle ground between typing and gaming.

The Corsair uses red switches, which are considered the best for gaming.

Read up on switch types here:

Personally I prefer reds overall, but browns are preferable for me should I spend more typing than gaming.

random post but I've had the k90 for a few months now after moving from the logitech g510 (non-mech keyboard).

WOW how i love mechanical keys now! however it does seem to be a bit trickier to setup macros with the k90 and their functionality is a bit limited in comparison. I do like how you can save to the keyboard though :)

but another not so great point is it's not completely mechanical... the F* and marco keys, ins home pg up etc... are rubber which is very noticeable going between the two.

I love the design of it though and can just blow on it to remove any dirt due to its "open" design :) solid, robust and lush to type on :D

I've got to get mine replaced, backlight is knackered (which seems very common sadly). Very nice aside from that though.

If the replacement is bad too I'll have to fall back to the QPAD or K70, will probably test out both.

Are there any mechanical KBs that have a screen similar to the Logitech KBs (G15, G510, G19 etc)? I use the sceen on mine to display EVGA Precision X & I don't want to lose the functionality but I want to go mechanical...
