** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Ordered a Filco brown M2 with Blue WASD and Red ESQ for some bling.

Great choice mate!
I found that at first I was hitting the bottom quite often so it was quite loud but slowly I am started to get a feel for the tactile bump (although it is very subtle) and I am not bottoming out the keys as often now, It seems that my typing has sped up a little and it is not as loud as I first thought.

I will get my o dampers pack from the USA soon so I will install them and see how the keyboard feels and update the thread.

Let us know how it goes with the dampers? Interested in a link to the place you bought the dampers?

I was looking for a new keyboard as well and came across this thread. I have had my fair share of keyboards over the years, spent quite a lot of money on G15s and others. This time I just wanted a great keyboard for work and home. I do a lot of typing at work and wanted something that would be great to type on. I never used the macro keys on the G15 and I also have no need for backlighting.

Having had a read about all of the different key switches I decided to settle on the MX Browns. I wanted something that would be good for typing on mainly, though I do use it for gaming at home as well. I did not want the blues do to the noise, and the blacks were said to not to be as good to type on.

Being the impatient person that I am the only keyboard in the UK that I could find with MX Browns that was in stock was the Zowie Celeritas. I was originally looking for a Filco Majestouch-2 with the brown switches but I did not want to wait so in the end I got the Zowie Celeritas.

Well apart from the aforementioned problem with the Celeritas keys getting a little dirty, it has been fantastic. It feels so nice to type on compared to my old keyboards that I am now a true convert. I now wonder why I spent all that money in the past on keyboards with LCD screens and backlighting when all I really wanted was a really nice keyboard to type on.

I am probably never going to use the feature on the Celeritas to change the repeat rate of a key, but I do find the ability to change the windows key into an extra control key useful, not sure if the Filco can do that. It was probably the only feature that I used on the G15 as well.

I am also not too keen on the lights on the F9-F12 keys that display which repeat rate you have selected, but thankfully you can turn all of the lights off on the keyboard.

All in all I am very happy with my new keyboard, I would highly recommend trying a mechanical keyboard to anyone that does a lot of typing.

I was just about to pull the trigger on a Noppoo Choc Mini with brown switches last night off the bay. Can I get coloured WASD keys for them?

I mainly game / chat on forums, but do not want anything too clicky as game late sometimes. Anything better in the price range?

Pretty much all keycaps will work on the Noppoo, the only downside is you can't do a full replacement of all the caps as the right shift is a non-standard size.

I'd recommend getting the white one, as that has PBT keycaps, which will feel nicer, and also not wear out as quickly, my one has a fair bit of wear after 6 months. Especially if you're a hunt and peck typer, it will make a difference if you can't see the keys ;)

I want to get my dad a mech keyboard for Christmas. It'd be for 99% typing, so the Cherry G80 seems like an affordable choice with the blue switches... have a feeling he might prefer the sound/feel of the browns, but I can't see any brown switch keyboards at around the £60-70 mark grrrr.

Will look into it. Seeing the keys are not a massive issue as I can touch type though I have remembered I preferable need to disable the windows key due to being left handed, but still using WASD. My thumb loves hitting the Windows key, so much so, I have removed it from my Reclusa.

The noppo choc mini I ordered with browns from the bay was £65, only issues are that its US layout and no numpad.

I didn't want a numpad to save space and the US layout isn't a big deal.
