** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I've gone back to my MS x6 keyboard now. I just couldn't get used to the Razor Blackwidow.

Sometimes, key presses were not registering and there was a slight delay pressing the same key again.

Not a bad price for a backlit mechanical keyboard, the Flico (non backlit) with Blacks (Majestouch, NKR, Linear Action) is £120 (tho its possible to get it for £99).

Been playing with the Ozone Strike this week but probably going to go with the Flico in the end as it seems a bit better, tho that Mionix is tempting to try to.

Yes but Filco is well known for their quality keyboards. Mionix? Not so much.

They are as good as they are made out to be, yes, but it's still down to personal preferance. Some people will still prefer rubber domes. Do you really need a numpad? Having the extra space between the mouse and keyboard is amoung the best things for me about my Filco Tenkeyless (only surpassed by the switch). I would recommend a Filco as they are brilliant in every way, they are expensive, but you get what you pay for. :)

As far as switch type goes, Brown is the safest to go for unless you can try the others before buying.
Thanks,
I guess for the amount I use the numpad, no really. Just never used the other number buttons.

And sorry, what exactly is this 'brown'?

Here's my thoughts on the keys misterinterface sent me -

Cherry's

Linear

Red - Very light smooth can see why these are popular for gaming keyboards.
Black - Similar to Red but needs more force.

From the two above I preferred the Red and think it would give less fatigue when gaming.

Tactile Clicky

Blue - Light clicky but was not a fan of the sound.
Grey Alps - A little stiffer than the Blue Cherry and feels different.

In this category I liked the Grey Alps the best they felt nice and think it would be good for typing.

Tactile no clicky

Clear - Feels like a black with tactile feedback.
Brown - Light with nice tactile feedback.
White Alps - Light but for me had a mushy feel, didn't like this.
Cherry ML - Feels like laptop key, reminds me of the Dell Vostro keyboard but lighter.
Blacks Alps - Similar to the Grey Alps but slightly stiffer

From the above I liked the Browns overall.

Conclusion

Here's what I would pick -

Gaming and Typing - Brown
Typing only - Grey Alps
Mainly Gaming - Red

If you ask on Deskthority you can get the switches sent to you to try them out for yourself.

Cheers, now the decision.

UK Filco Majestouch-2, NKR, Tactile Action Keyboard
or
UK Filco Majestouch-2, Tenkeyless, NKR, Tactile Action, Keyboard

Hmm!

£114 for the Tenkeyless, OK thats my Xmas present bought :p The layout looks identical to my Logitech G11 so that's good.

You can buy the numpad seperately if you need it. Personally I need a numberpad when I type any sort of number.
£40 though, might as well just go for the keyboard which has it built in.. Sure I can live without it and get used to using the numbers under the F keys.

Oh so sexy. Meant to be available soon.

I've asked 5UB on here to see if OcUK can start stocking some of these boards. Need to remind him on monday to check with his suppliers but a few of these might be coming to OcUK soon if he can get hold of them!

Filco majestouch 2 with cherry browns are my choice. I invested in one a few weeks ago and wow! It was worth every penny! I am still waiting for the damper o ring kit to arrive and i will update this thread one i get them.

Filco if you want the rolls royce of mech boards.

Totally agree. I have been using my brown Mage2 for 2 weeks and I won't go back to domes. Initially wanted reds because I thought the browns would be too heavy. For me the browns are just right. The reds would have been far too light.

The Filco is the Rolls Royce. No gimmicks you just get quality.

I'm still waiting for a UK Filco Ninja Majestouch-2 Tenkeyless with Cherry MX Browns. Should be around next year apparently. If OcUK can stock them at a good price that'd be...
