** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Dampeners, how do they work? Do you have to put one under every single key?

Indeed you do.

Been looking at getting some myself but I think the WASD prices are too high. You can buy small rubber o-rings for literally nothing in the UK. I have been trying to find out how big they need to be and I will order some.

It seems to me that a "rubbery" feel when you bottom out the keys is just gonna make them feel more like membrane keys, hence kinda defying the point in a mech keyboard?

So where do you guys buy coloured WASD, ESC etc. apart from Filco own ones but I'm trying to look for alternatives. Ebay list some glossy looking which I don't like.

Would it be cheap to just buy the keys from them as they are located in the US?
Trying to avoid customs and what not.

Thanks for the heads up!

Oh well ordered

Blank white WASD, white ENTER and White ESC for £6 ish still a lot cheaper than filcos WASD + their 5 quid delivery!

Just a quick update on the Zowie Celeritas. I have had it for about 6 months now and while it has been great in general, the spacebar has started making a very annoying squeaking noise. I found a review that suffered from the same problem and they reckon it can be fixed with a new spacebar. I have contacted Zowie and will see what happens.

Just so you know you can get 60 O-rings in a pack that would be suitable from a well known auction site for £3.50 del.

Search for: RUBBER O-RINGS 4mm ID

;)

Thanks. Have you tried these, and if so on which board?

I expect I'll be getting some Filco browns (I'd like the standard uk board, but I don't want the letters coming off, so I'm also considering the Ninja, but it's not my first choice) and I'm not sure I'll ever learn not to bottom out, so the rubber rings could be very handy.

No I have not tried them but I they will the job, I know for sure they are the right size.

The O-Rings go well with Blue switches.

Also: Wish WASD was based in the UK. :(

I've just ordered some of them O-rings that I found on the bay. I have tried a few switches now with various keyboards and actually prefer blues out of the bunch. I've got a black widow ultimate that I am sticking with so will be interesting to see how these o-rings perform, I have already got a few spare ones from WASD that I have tried and it does quieten the keys down nice, I just don't have enough to do the whole keyboard. These black o-rings from the bay should not be that different to the ones WASD sells and £3.50 for 60 will be plenty to do the whole keyboard for a fraction of the price!

That's my good deed for the day done.:p

Nice find, Combat Fighter.

Apparently they're harder than WASD's, but presumably the difference in sound absorption will be negligible.

Got a reply very quickly from Zowie Support. They are sending out a new spacebar to replace the one that is making the squeaking noise. Lets hope it fixes the issue. The noise is starting to drive me mad.

Bought some o-rings and a single blank key from WASD in every colour (saw that ebay link too late :p).

Will see how each key looks on my K90 with the back-light when they arrive and I'll post pics. Didn't want to commit to full set of keys if it's going to look weird :)

Had the keyboard two days now and I'm liking it so far!

New board arrived today:
