** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Blues are generally regarded as the best for typing yes, personally I like the clears tho they are very hard to find any more as they have a slight tactile which is good enough for typing but the weightier resistance of blacks (which means they work better for both typing and fps gaming than any other type of keyboard).

OK, cheers. Bearing in mind the competitor mention rule, are you able to suggest good places to buy a Filco from? Is it possible to buy from them direct or must I find a dealer?

Ordered my Filco Ninja TKL yesterday- I went for the browns in the end.

Very excited to be getting it. :)

That's the exact one I'm gonna get (can't today until my bank unblocks my card, long story). The ninja look is awesome and I'm really looking forward to having the extra mouse space :). Also I've tried my flatmates full-size Filco which also has brown switches so I know I love the feel of them.

Hoping this is the last keyboard I have to buy until brain-computer interfaces become standard :D

Same, I have a G510 at the moment and it is a monster, my hand has barely any space to move the mouse :(

I tried a set of blue switches and liked the tactile feel- but they were just too loud and would probably drive me (and anyone near me) insane. Sadly I have to go away until the end of the week, so will have to wait even longer for it. :(

The ninja look is so cool, but I was really tempted by a Leopold Otaku- as it has absolutely nothing on the keycaps. They look awesome, but don't seem to be distributed in the UK yet. :(

Post some pictures up once you get yours. :)

Yeah, I got 1 of each switch type off ebay to try them out and I like all of them so it's really hard to choose :(. I plan to eventually get a keyboard with each of them but for now I figured the browns are the most balanced for everyday use. The Otaku looks badass, but I'd hit the wrong keys if I had that lol. I can type at about 80wpm but still need to glance down at the keyboard occasionally, not to find letters but to see where my fingers are (can't get used to using the little bumps on f and j). The ninja filco shall be my training wheels :).

Willdo :D (regarding pics)

Just received the white WASD key set was quite cheap even from the US.
Maybe should've bought the grey ones...

Hmmmmm. I was going to get similar, all black engraved keys and then get a 39 white blank keys and replace all letters or just WASD with white when I felt like it.

That does look awfully white though... get some more photos in!

I'm currently charging the DSLR and that was with my S2.
But it is quite white, not sure how it will look after a few months lol, easy to clean though!
Wasn't that expensive all 5 buttons only cost me £6 from wasdkeyboards.
So easy to customize these mech keyboards.

My keyboard arrived today :D:D:D. (filco majestouch ninja TKL with brown switchs, uk iso layout). It's awesome. I've got so much more space on my desk now. The keyboard feels very solid and heavy and the shell has a nicely textured feel. The ninja look is great, I can still easily see the key labels from my usual typing position, so if I need to look down and check then there's no problem. And from any other angle it looks pure black otaku which is badass. The keys also feel nice an smooth as a result of not having anything printed on them. The plastic cover which the keyboard comes packaged in is extremely useful for when they keyboard isn't in use. My old Logitech G110 had hundreds of crumbs and milk splashes (from eating cereal) on it, but the cover will stop the same thing happening to my enw Filco. The brown switches are very nice as I knew they would be. I haven't got used to not bottoming them out yet though, as it takes a very precise amount of force (too much and it bottoms out, too little and it doesn't actuate). They are definitely a compromise between typing and gaming, as the higher actuation force and more pronounced click in the blues would make it easier not to bottom out. For gaming, blacks or reds would probably be better since you're going to be bottoming out anyway. So browns are definitely a compromise IMO, rather than being the best of both worlds. Ideally I would have two keyboards, one with blues and one with reds, but given I can only afford one (and reds are impossible to find) then I'm very happy with my choice :). The browns are better than a membrane keyboard by a mile, for both typing and gaming, it's just the blues and reds are a small amount better still, for their intended purposes.

EDIT: i was going to post pictures, but my SD card reader has packed up so i can't get them off my camera. Ah well.

EDIT 2: my board is the same as the post above, but with the key labels on the front of the keys, and without the yellow WASD group.

I bought the 5mm ID version of the o-rings that Combat Fighter alluded to, and fitted them earlier - they have reduced the noise by a reasonable amount. For £5 they're a good purchase, in my opinion.

Just ordered the Filco ninja ten keyless with browns. Hopefully it'll be nice to use with starcraft2 as my mechanical at home uses reds and this is for use away from home.

Will probably return this and get a wasd with reds if I dont like the feel of them.

What is the inner and outer diameter of the o-rings that fit on the cherry mx switches?

I think I'm going to try making some out of different thickness EPDM and see how they compare to rubber o-rings.

Got my replacement spacebar from Zowie, I fitted it (deliberately upside down due to the angled face as I don't like the default whereby it is higher at the front of the key) and haven't had any sticking issues since \o/

I bought a QPAD Blue back in November. Damn thing shipped with a faulty 'A' and 'PgUp' key. 'PgUP' is still defective but the former is ok now after some use.

Other than that, it's great to type-on and don't find myself double-jumping everywhere in FPS like some Blue Cherry owners claim.
