** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I've had a look to see if I can find a multimedia keyboard with brown switches, I'd miss my volume/play buttons too much if I didn't have them but I don't seem to be able to find any.

Does anyone happen to have seen one (please don't link a competitor!)

As I keep saying in this thread: Zowie Celeritas.

... sorry, but what's the difference? you really want 4-6 more keys on your keyboard, totally redundant? the zowie is a mechanical that has media functions. i can't really see any reason why you'd insist on having separate keys?

Just ordered the Filco ninja ten keyless with browns. Hopefully it'll be nice to use with starcraft2 as my mechanical at home uses reds and this is for use away from home.

Will probably return this and get a wasd with reds if I dont like the feel of them.

I can confirm it works nice for SC2 :D

Because then I'd have separate media keys, and not keys that don't work if I've got function keys in one setting.

I'm not sure you're understanding how they work, exactly. They're regular keys (F1-F6). When you hold down the Zowie (right Windows) key, they have extra media functionality. There's nothing stopping you from remapping them or anything. What's the big problem? Sounds like a huge inconvenience to yourself for... zero reason.

Because they're not as convenient as proper media keys. I do understand that way of functioning is slightly better than a caps lock type way...

However I'm using a (cheap) Logitech Media 600. It has great media keys, a volume dial etc, I can operate it with barely a glance to what I'm doing. I would not be able to do that with the Zowie keyboard, so while the cherry switches would be a significant upgrade, the media functions would be a significant downgrade.

As promised, some photos of K90 with every colour key:

Photos don't come up that well, but you get the idea. The blue key bleeds most backlight, but it isn't very even, only the top half of the key get the light coming through. In order of "bleed":

Blue > Green > Orange > Light grey > Red, Yellow > White > Dark grey, Black.

My personal preference is that the white, black and greys look the best. Although orange looks surprisingly good with the backlight. I'll probably end up going for some funky WASD keys and not much else, depends how bored I get!

O-rings

Not much else to say other than they are pretty cool. I went for the black 50A ones, and they are pretty squidgy. Internal diameter is about 4.5mm, external is 8mm. They reduce the travel ever so slightly which I like, because I tend to bottom them out frequently. I'll keep testing them all and report back if I don't get on with them.

I found the black o-rings I got from ebay blocks some the light that shines through the keys making them look a little duller, might see about getting some clear o-rings from ebay to try.

You will, got mine yesterday awesome keyboard, only minor issues I've had was

After changing the WASD keys to the red ones 3 came off in use, but after pushing them on again they've kept on

If you install the software the media keys don't work with anything without launching WMP, however they would work before installing it

The keys do get some getting used too because you only need light key presses
