** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

only do US layout as far as I can tell

WASD keyboards will apparently start doing UK layouts at the end of the year/beginning of next year (I think whenever the boat sails in :-). The guy running it seems valid and friendly looking at comments from the people at geekhack.org. Looking very much forward to these keyboards myself!

If you want a cheap way of trying a Cherry MX keyboard look out on fleabay for a Compaq MX-11800.

They are a Server rack board but use Cherry MX brown keys.

Saw 2 sell last week for under £15 each.

Just wondering if anyone has bought a EU layout or US layout if i set my windows keyboard language to english UK it wont matter what the layout is one the board but rather just my OS.

(Cant find a DAS keyboard ultimate in UK layout)

Best keyboards available in the UK are also the best keyboards in the world, a lot of serious gamers order their keyboards from the UK because of the quality.

You can't get much better than these keyboards and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes with different colour cherry keys.

The ETA for the Mionix Zibal 60 is now mid-september, I may get a Choc Mini or a KBC Poker to tide me over as my keyboard's on it's last legs. The ultimate for me would be a tenkeyless version of the Ducky Shine with MX Browns.

I've had a look at the Filco and probably prefer the final finish on the DAS. Not really too fussed on the different colour keys and don't want tenkeyless one.

I think an EU board must surely be configurable to all languages using windows OS.

The different colour keys are the most important aspect when choosing a mechanical keyboard the different colour switches under the keys feel very different when pressed a lot of people like the brown switches because of their versatility and light feeling, while the black are slightly harder to press, blue make a clicking noise but are very similar to the browns and then you have reds which are quite rare but they are very sensitive and don't require much to activate the key.

I would recommend blacks for fps games and maybe others where you don't want to push a key by mistake and browns for typing comfort and RTS games like starcraft etc.

Take a look at this link explains it very well

click through the other pages for browns and blues etc

I also never understood why people want keyboards with flashy lights and illuminated backlit keys do people really stare at there keyboard that much? :/

My two keyboards both have blank key caps and have no problems whatsoever.

When it comes to keyboards you just want something good strong and sturdy that will pass the test of time.

I use the choc mini exclusively for starcraft for easy access to the F keys.

Sorry completely mis understood, i thought u meant the customizable keycaps they offer, i know the different switch colours, and i'm pretty set on getting the blues.

Only places selling the board are a german company and im pretty sure it is them selling through the rainforest aswell and they won't deliver to northern ireland, this is pretty frustrating.

Honestly though £136 including shipping? It just isn't worth it for what it is, your basically paying 60 quid extra for a shiny keyboard that attracts dust, It really doesn't have much else to offer that others don't already for half the price.

I'm going to be using it quite a few hours a day and it is just a preference.
Ordering from their site says they deliver to GB and Ireland and pretty much anywhere in europe but ordering from the rainforest doesn't let me deliver to northern ireland.

Going to take the plunge and order and hope they can deliver to northern ireland.

Ok well it's your money :)

I think i'm going to sell my G19 as I don't use it's features and try a mechanical keyboard. I've had a think about it and based off recommendations in this thread i've made a shortlist:

- Types of mechanical keyboard keys:
- Cherry MX Black: Gaming
- Cherry MX Blue: Typing
- Cherry MX Brown/Clear: Both

- Some mechanical keyboard suggestions:
- WASD Keyboard (MX Black/Brown/Blue)
- Das Keyboard (MX Brown/Blue)
- Razer Blackwidow (MX Blue)
- Filco Majestouch (MX Black/Brown/Blue)
- Zowie Celeritas (MX Brown)
- Steelseries 7G (MX Black)
- Steelseries 6Gv2 (MX Black)
- Mionix Zibal (MX Black)
- Thermaltake Meka/Meka G1 (MX Black)

It's a shame there's nowhere you can really go to try out the different switches and see what you feel is best for you. I'm leaning towards the MX Browns/Clears as I guess overall I do a balance of typing and gaming.

I was also eyeing up the Topre Capacitive keyboard but if I spend £192 on a keyboard I think my girlfriend might disown me. :o
