** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Still seem to be struggling to type without errors on this keyboard.

Was wondering what others experience was when they first replaced the keyboard?

I have quite a few typing errors with my black switches but I think the problem would disappear if I had the same keyboard at work. I spend all day typing on a normal keyboard then on my mech one in the evening, so never really get used to it. Am getting better though only had to retype five words in this reply.

Which switches are on it? if its blacks then your never going to be typing the best on them imo they are purely an FPS gaming keyboard which they do really really well at, anything else they suck (again IMO).

brown switches.

edit:
It could be because I am trying to hit the keys too hard and I end up pressing the one next to it too. I've found if I slow down I'm making less mistakes.
I'm hoping this means it's only a matter of time before I get used to it - I love the feel of the keyboard.

Yes I can see what you mean.

I'm still trying to press the keys through the keyboard even though I don't need to now.

Hopefully just a getting used to phase.

Already made a thread in the General Hardware section but seems like i'll get a better response here.

My precious G15 is not working anymore so i'm looking to buy a mechanical keyboard this time round, but I want one with dedicated media keys like volume control, pause, stop etc. Not combined on the F keys.

Not bothered about backlights or macro keys and my budget is £50-£100.
I will be playing StarCraft 2 the most and the occasional fps game, so if any avid sc2 gamers out there or anyone can recommended me a decent mechanical keyboard, please do!

Thanks.

Why do you want a mechanical? That's probably the biggest question to ask yourself.

£50-100 will get you a cheap mechanical from one of the gaming brands. Add an extra £50 and you'd be able to buy a Filco which are like the top tier mechanicals.

Also you should see if there's anywhere close to you that does mechanicals so you can try one out.

I'm a starcraft gamer btw so I know quite a few people who've bought one for the wrong reasons and then disliked it.

I'll try the local PC-World, see if they got any mechanical on display. But mainly I just want to try something new I guess, see what the hype is about. (Had my G15 for about 4 years+)

I'd like a top tier, but can't afford it right now. Though saying that, a Qpad 80/85 is looking tempting so far..

They might have one for you to try. Not sure though. My first mechanical was a qpad 85 and it's a pretty good keyboard for the price. Isn't it about £140 tho?

I did the same thing and was able to compare blue and black switches (Razer and Steelseries were instore at the time).

It helped me decide that I wanted a linear switch so got the Qpad MK-85.

After about a month with my Filco Majestouch 2 I wouldn't use any other keyboard. It's a dream to type on and the only thing it lacks is media keys but I can easily live without that! The build quality is fantastic and I swear if anyone were to break in to the house I could use it as a weapon to sort them out and go back to gaming afterwards!

After a lot of deliberation, I think Im just going to bite the bullet and order a custom WASD keyboard. The filco was the front runner due to uk stock, but when you factor in a wrist rest, it comes out way more expensive than a WASD, even after tax/duty. Not to mention you can completely customise the WASD.

I don't use a wrist rest for the Filco I was going to buy one but after a couple of days I got used to it and decided its not worth getting a rest! I would get the Filco! :)
