** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Got my Filco Majestouch2 with blue switches earlier today. Only just unpacked it and plugged it in and I'm loving it! :) The sound and feel of the keys is astounding compared to the cheap Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 it has replaced. It also takes up less space and the rectangular layout of the Filco certainly helps with that compared to the split keyboard layout the Comfort Curve uses.

Sorry if this has already been asked and answered but where might I be able to try my hands/fingers at these mechanical keyboards in London?

Thinking about making the purchase but would really like to have a go first! :D

Thanks. Just added you.

Heh, I've only used Twitter twice to enter competitions. Took me a minute to figure out how to add you. Also just tweeted (?) you.

Thanks!

Just got my Rosewill 9000RE from w3bbo, nice board, same OEM as Filcos, nice and heavy plate mounted board with reds, this'll be the 5th board in my collection (although 3 are the same board) just need to get some new caps for it - I'm looking at getting white side printed ones, they should look pretty boss with the red back plate.

Is it normal for black switches to stick randomly sometimes?
I have the TT esports meka g unit and seems to have just started happening over the last couple of days the keyboard less than a month old. Bit annoyed expect better for £100 keyboard.

Haven't had this problem with mine. RMA time...

Absolutely not. Is it one key or a number of keys? I would take them off and have a peek underneath. You have not spilled anything sugary on it have you? :D

Not spilled a thing. Basically what is happening sometimes i press a key and will type the same letter about 10 times e.g ttttttttttt the 2nd I press another key it stops. It happens randomly no set key causing it. The key itself is not becoming stuck it just seems to continue the signal. I wont rma the keyboard over this as cost for sending it not worth it as I can live with it just wondering if any encountered this and if they managed to fix it somehow.

I've heard of this problem before. I think getting a replacement is the only thing you can do.

Ah well looks like will have to live with it. Would cost about £20 just to send back then not guaranteed that they will replicate the fault to replace it for me. Due to the randomness of the fault not worth the cost imo.ofc if gets worse will rma the keyboard. But onlyy happened about 8 times over the last 3 days (16 hours a day on pc not that bad).

I wouldn't live it and would send it back,

I have been adding O rings to my keys to dampen down the bottoming out the switches normally get.
Have been reluctant to try and remove the spacebar key as I know it is also resting on some kind of wire spring?
Has anyone here removed the spacebar on a mechanical kb?

Cheers

Realized was 14 days today I got the keyboard so sent a message asking to return under the 14 days. This way don't have to wait until testing ect and hope they will switch the keyboard for a dif one.

btw when I mentioned the board via ticket they told me to send back as rma.

The reason I have not rma the board is the fault is so random if I send it back would cost £20 and they not guaranteed to see the fault (how would they test some1 sit pressing random keys all day?) and end up sending it back to me costing even more money. Thing cost £100 and now worthless to me.Last time I spend £100 on a board.

Send it back. It's not an uncommon fault so they should replace it without having to see it first hand.

I've been wanting to try out a mechanical keyboard with blue switches for ages. In a famous high street shop, they have a Razer Black Widow on display, in its box and the arrow keys are exposed as a sample so you can feel what it's like. I don't quite know what I was expecting, I kind of had a pre-conceived idea of how it would feel but I was a little disappointed tbh. It was noisy in the shop but putting my ear close to it I could hear the famous click as the switch is activated, but the feel of pressing the keys, well, it just felt to me pretty much like an ordinary dome keyboard under my fingers, nothing special. I don't know, it didn't feel as exciting as I was hoping. I think I was expecting the presses of the keys to be more solid or something. A little bit more like a typewriter perhaps. I could hear the actuation but didn't really feel it in any particularly satisfying way. Maybe it would feel better if it was at home and I had more time playing with it, or maybe the black widow is not a great example of how mechanicals can feel?

I have the Qpad MK-85(reds), its great to type on and game, i did consider going with browns but to be honest this is more than fine, the only let down is the software it comes with and the lack of on the fly macro record (atleast i havent discovered it).

The keyboard itself is great tho.

Anyone here got a ducky shine backlit mx cherry blue? Supposed to be better build quality than qpad, more even backlighting, and generally on the same level as filco. I've found somewhere to buy them but I think it's US layout. Does anyone know if there's a UK layout?

Also, the WASD keyboards are supposedly even better quality, very customisable, but the best thing is they're apparently bringing out a backlit version next year.
