** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I wish there were more options for mech keyboards with g-keys (well, ones that don't look funny like a half return key, short backspace etc lol). I'm probs the only person who actually likes them. Long fingers and the gkeys are perfect keybind stuff to.

Wouldn't mind a mechanical g15!

Something with MX browns i'd assume - Certainly a lot quieter than the majority of mechanical boards, but still rather noisy.

Browns are a good choice, Filco and Zowie are good brand choices in the UK. Browns are more expensive than other types of keys, which is the downside.

Browns might be a more expensive switch type but damn they are good to type on coming from a Logitech Ultra X (scissor switches!)

Will take me a couple of days to get acquainted with the difference in the layout but so far so good! :)

Just done a little gaming with my keyboard (Filco Majestatouch Ninja 2) and it plays fine. In fact repeatedly mashing the W key to cycle in GTA San Andreas has already got me typing quieter :)

I have not long been the proud owner of a QPAD MK-80, which was slightly cheaper than the MK-85 and came with Cherry blue switches. I work from home a lot and find it brilliant for typing and its also OK for gaming (I mainly play FPSs).

Feels great with the nice coating on the keys and the keyboard itself and several settings for the LEDs including OFF (good when you have a headache!).

I type with my MK-85 and I do not find the activation pressure too light as I have shortened the travel with some O-rings; which also act as a variable damper at the bottom of the stroke.

If you touch type fast then I don't see Reds as being a problem with anything you throw at it as they are great for gaming too.

I find the reds on my Corsair K90 too sensitive. If I touch a key next to one I want, it registers. I find I have to stab directley down onto the keys, I can't rest my figers on the board.

Still struggling to type with my black switches, even after 6 months. Not helping that I have a normal keyboard at work.

For gaming though it is just perfect.

Having just completed my MA dissertation i'm looking to treat myself. I'm thinking along the lines of a new keyboard. It will mainly be used for gaming FPS, RTS and maybe a a little bit of WoW on the side, along with a bit of typing.

I have been using a standard Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 keyboard for the last four years so I'm guessing that any 'Gaming' keyboard will be a massive improvement over this. I'm tired of getting killed on BF when I hit certain keys in combination.

Price is not to much of an issue, but nothing overly expensive. Noise is not an issue either.

Has anyone got any recommendations?
