** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Full sized keyboard for around £80-100 I reckon. I don't really need any fancy things :p

Hmm.. Well it's not hard to get a full-sized for around that.

I have a lightly-used Qpad MK85 (Reds) on the MM for under £100 XD Shameless to mention.

So reading around it seems that browns or blues are the best to with for gaming/typing but blues are a bit difficult to double tap with?

Blacks/Red for gaming (reds if you are weak/prone to fatigue apparently. I have no issues with my blacks and they are very easy to press over a long period of time).

Blue for typing. Having tried them, you can't "float" over the activation point of the switch and that is a royal pain for gaming unless you smash the keys down and always fully release the key (no one decent will do that).

Brown is OK at both tasks, as are Clear. I'd avoid these to be honest as they aren't great at either task.

To be honest, try them yourself. You can get a keychain sample of each switch for a few quid and people (including me) will always suggest that what they have is perfect.

Browns are actually the most popular for gaming. Reds are definitely the rarest switch even though it's my personal choice for gaming.

I'd say it's a safe choice to go with Reds/Blacks depending on if you want a higher actuation force or not.

I do want the 'clicky' sound that the blues give but the red/blacks sound better for everything else. Hmm..

Also have to find a nice keyboard.

I've never heard of the Osmium and I'd steer clear from any brand thats not well-known.
It's Gigabyte and frankly the best keyboard I've owned, makes my previous BlackWidow Ultimate feel cheap...

Red switches take a bit of getting used to after blues but I wouldn't go back now...

I'm trying to purchase a Noppoo Choc Mini, I'm either stupid (more than likely) or drunk too much to find a reliable seller in the UK? I've read the thread and people seem to be getting hold of them pretty easily so any suggestions on where to purchase one?

I've settled on Reds/Browns and would like a UK layout if at all possible.

eBay. There's plenty of trusted resellers on there.

Just a quick sanity check of my research if you could please chaps...

Quiet (non click) switches - red and black, with the black supposedly needing a higher actuation force?

If so, would the red be the better option for a gaming keyboard user who requires the occasional terminal/word processing/email session?

Cheers in advance. :)

Switches
Linear: MX Red and MX Black. Reds have a light feel to them, and Blacks need a bit extra force to press them. I find the reds are a little lighter than my membrane board, where as the blacks are a little heavier. Best for FPS gaming, but still fine for typing on.

Click: MX Blue. Have a very nice feel, with a noticeable bump before actuation, then a click as they are pressed. Best for typing, but are nice for gaming. They are loud, but are silenced to a click when a dampener is used.

Tactile: MX Brown, no click, and slightly lighter than my membrane board. Have a little bump at actuation that isn't felt when bottoming them, but is when typing. The best all-round key.

The K60 and K90 from Corsair don't have all of the keys with a mechanical switch behind them, but the majority of the keys do. They do have a good name though.

For the Logitech G710+, I believe it looks about 2meters long? in the videos. Hopefully somebody with one might pop up somewhere to answer that :)

Thanks for that, I'm glad you posted. Interesting to read the reds are slightly light than a membraned keyboard, would make for a very light touch. Perhaps the black is a better option...

Thanks for that, been wanting one of these for awhile but putting it off. The more I look at my ragged old G15 the more i want the G710+

[edit]

The deed is done, G710+ on the way, I will give a small review here when I can comparing it to the G15.
