**** The Official OnePlus 5 Thread ****

The Galaxy S8 screen looks 'cool' and is an impressive technical feat of engineering but after using it for a couple of minutes I found it quiet irritating the way text on websites curved away at the sides of the display. Plus I suspect a lot of apps are going to have issues with the the odd display ratio. Also, suffice to say I'm not a fan of Samsung's TouchWiz UI and their slow rollout of Android updates.

I need a new phone as my Nexus 5X died yesterday and is being refunded. I had a look around the shop and the OnePlus 5 looks really nice though I've no experience of the brand and all my other recent phones have been either iphones or Nexus models.

I can't decide whether to spend a bit more and get a Oneplus 5 or cheap out and go for a Moto G5 until the new iphone/Google Pixel are out at the end of the year.......? Are there any phones others on here considered before buying the Oneplus 5?

How are OnePlus themselves in terms of support and rolling out Android OS updates and patches?

@Kona Awesome Mate. Glad to hear that it's an improvement over the OP3 which was pretty speedy in the first place. It's a relief that OP have improved the camera focus as well because that was one of the gripes I had with my OP3T.

Black is always a good colourway to go for. Super safe and not flashy.

How's the vibration motor and the build quality compared to the OP3?

Thanks for your impressions so far!

Anytime. The build quality and fit add finish are all top drawer and it does have a chamfered Edge which I thought it didn't have in the renders so that's great. All the buttons are tactile and clicky and nothing rattles and all the ports and holes are machined to a very high standard and are also chamfered which looks great. Feel in the hand is very comfortable and being a metal back it doesn't get slimy like glass and stays a lot cleaner looking than I thought it would.

All in all very impressed and the design definitely looks better in person and grows on me all the time. The vibration motor stronger and more refined than before and the speaker goes seriously loud.

I racked up over 6hrs screen time with 40% left, that's me setting up the phone and having a play. I'll report back on day to day usage by the end of the week.

Does yours have a little nick / bump above the rear camera lenses halfway between them? I'm not sure if this is intentional or a mark on mine.

First impressions from me, been using it since yesterday evening. FWIW, I'm coming from an S7E.

Kind of echoing @kona786 above...

Battery life is very impressive, and I've been hammering it messing about setting up etc and it seems to be holding up very well.
FP scanner is crazy fast and accurate.
Screen is good, uniform colours etc. (I'm using sRGB) - On that note, what is DCI-P3 and should I be using it?
Liking the little tweaks to the OS.
Build quality is on point.

I miss the wireless charging of the S7E, that is the main thing I knew I'd miss, its just so damn handy. But the curved screen was starting to really get to me.

Overall I'm happy and will likely keep it.

I have the join on the camera too, its normal: https://youtu.be/4f1yomB_VCs?t=5m11s

DCI-P3 is a wider colour space vs sRGB, however Android doesn't cater for it so all the colours will be over saturated. I'm using sRGB, have done on all my screens for a while now as I prefer colour accuracy.

Cool thanks guys. Like has already been said, finding mine great so far. Touched my old OP3 and 5 back to back to do the setup. Left it for a bit to download the apps. Was then fairly quick and simple to setup any other apps.

Only thing that bugged me was having to goto my desktop to setup 2FA with Google account again on the new phone.

if it helps I just had to RMA in warranty my OP3 for a camera issue. support was actually pretty good considering all of the scare comments on here.

was collected yesterday by DHL and is currently in Czech Republic. Expected turn around is 7-10 days.

at the end of the day if none of us wanted performance we'd all still be running 486 processors and driving 1000cc cars. because thats good enough.

I know it's early days but has anyone found a source of accessories yet? Cases/screen protectors and the like :)

I've got a silicon skin coming with mine on Monday but I'd like a protector/tempered glass as well at some point.

I'm going on holiday on the 30th and the 2 dbrand skins I've ordered won't even be shipped till then. Hoping to go into o2 on Friday morning and pick one up as they didn't have any accessories when I went in today.

I dont really need a ton of storage and I figure 6gb of ram will be plenty so i was going to get the £450 model but i was wondering if i should get the £500 model any way. My thinking is that the £500 model might not depreciate as much as it'll probably be the more popular choice for most people?
