**** The Official OnePlus 5 Thread ****

yes and yes.
On paper and in OnePlus’ marketing materials, this dual camera is the OnePlus 5’s big differentiator. In reality, it’s a major letdown. Firstly, the main camera lacks optical image stabilization (OIS) and produces soft images as a result. OnePlus will tell you that its extra-wide aperture and electronic stabilization make OIS superfluous, but the only phone I’ve yet used in which that’s true is the Google Pixel. The Pixel has raised my expectations of mobile cameras to a very high standard, and right now I only see the Galaxy S8, HTC U11, and, to a lesser degree, LG G6 coming close to it. Everyone else, the iPhone included, feels like a generation behind.
I was ready to buy OP5 on lauch, as camera is now one of key features on phones I buy, but not this and not at this price point. Well hyped, but mediocre in reality.

Same, with the large price increase I was hoping they were giving us a flagship camera and what we got was a mid ranged camera with no OIS and a gimmicky second camera nobody really wanted.

Such a shame really, hard to even argue it's good value, OnePlus as we knew them are dead.

So after my remarks last week, that very night I dropped my phone and the digitizer broke :(

Just went for the straight upgrade and paid the device plan off. Went with the 5 instead of the S8. Kinda glad I did. Camera is such an improvement over the 3 and the sheer speed of the thing is alarming at times.

No arguing with the price point though....

how are people finding the camera? As hit and miss as the reviews keep saying? I had a quick play with one in the o2 shop earlier although i couldn't get it off the fixed stand to take pictures.

I've not had any problems with it, photos are on par with the wife's ip7, I do feel that further fw upgrades will improve a few processing things tho.

Having had a 1+1 for 2.5 yrs along with a move off contract to a much cheaper package, I felt 500 was steeper than it should have been but still with my budget.

1+1 was what 269?
5 is 450 so 180 price difference (I got the 128)

Add 20 for brexit, parts are clearly more expensive so maybe 50£ on that. Now they actually have to pay staff they didn't have before too...

Seems reasonable. I'll be back to another 2.5-3 years... See what they are doing.

Ordered mine at 00:01.

Paid for priority delivery but website still quotes ETA as 4th July.

A little disappointed with that, I hate waiting for toys.

I walked into O2 yesterday and walked out with one :) Coming from an S8+ I love it - only downside so far is the camera slightly and the screen. Performance is night and day.

Are you with O2?

Not spoken to anyone yet who has purchased from them but is with another network.

Performance difference is night and day? Is the S8+ really that bad? I have neither device, just interested!

I had a standard setup with standard apps and the lag sometimes was horrible - especially when opening the camera and taking pics. Battery was hit and miss too.
Got the same apps on the OP5 and it just delivers everytime. Worrying how much it stores in RAM :D

@kona786 Thanks for your impressions Mate. That sounds excellent. Clocking up over 6 hours SOT is very impressive! A worthy replacement to your Nexus 6.

Finally got my hands on my OP5 yesterday and I agree with your thoughts about the build quality. To be honest I wasn't expecting much from the phone from a 3T users standpoint but it surprised me in a very good way.

The phone is rapid even more so than the U11 and that is no mean feat. It's a very decent phone however I am torn between this and the U11 as the latter does have the advantage of expandable memory. The downside of the U11 is the barebones software experience whereas Oxygen OS is superb.

As a matter of interest what case did you end up getting in the end?

Have you had a chance to have a go on the camera?

What does that mean? I haven't used an HTC in yonks, but barebones software sounds like a good thing to me, I want as close to vanilla aosp as possible.

HTC used to be horrendous for OTAs as well, they completely dropped support for my old one s after they said it would get Jelly Bean (sound familiar?).
