**** The Official OnePlus 6 Thread ****

It's now £500 for the base model and for what? A gimmicky inscreen fingerprint scanner, no headphone jack, and a still average camera. From a business POV I'm not sure how Oneplus see themselves anymore. They used to be the "compromise" smartphone where they'd cut out the gimmicky BS and deliver what matters for a genuine affordable price, but this just seems like they're forgetting what made them a great option. There's just no need for the 6t, and personally for that price, I think the Mi Mix 3 is much better.

Bigger battery and double the base storage - technically it's £30 less than the 128gb OP6.

That said, I've got an OP6 and see no reason to upgrade

To be fair, if I had a OP6 I'd see no reason to upgrade either, it is just an incremental upgrade - but that's what OnePlus do, it was the same with the 3 to my 3T which was just a slight CPU and battery bump and a better front camera, I think.

I said from page one of this thread I was waiting for a decent front fingerprint sensor...
Yeah, 'fans'... :p:rolleyes:

If they don't want a phone with an extra bit of screen where it would otherwise be a black bezel, they don't have to buy it!!!

Age of the entitled internet, bring on the notch I say. If my clock/notifications can slip into an area that gives me more screen space then I'm all for it.

Tbh I'm more concerned about the fact that there'll probably not be a front fingerprint sensor, I like my 3t with its front sensor. Although if face unlock is decent it shouldn't be an issue. Not a deal breaker, but I'll probably still want for the 6T if I upgrade :D

Anyway, isn't it about time for a proper OnePlus 6T thread?

Watching other videos the ambient display and scanner 'wakes' when the phone is lifted up. Yeah it might use a tiny bit of battery but the whole screen isn't on, only the pixels showing the date/time etc as it's an oled screen. Presumably the scanner green light is ready to read your finger too.

9:40 in.

I really don't see how the in-screen fps is ''disastrous' lol. It's secure as any other scanner, you get a tiny lower bezel, it's a fraction of a second slower, and you can't unlock the phone without picking it up or single tapping the screen. Oh, woe is me.:p

Personally I prefer front fingerprint scanners, not a fan of ones on the back, so to get a front one with small bezels this was the only way to do that. Good on OP for being one of the first to bring out this tech on a decently priced phone to boot. Apple/Google probably could have included this tech on their £1000+ phones, but they didn't - OnePlus did on a £500 phone.

If I upgrade in the next few months it will be a 6T without any doubt.

I agree!

The finger print sensor is a massive step backwards considering there was no reason to remove the capacitive sensor from the back. Would be nice to have a camera that rivals the flagships but we're talking about a phone that matches and or beats then in almost every other aspect but is £300 cheaper.

rear fingerprint scanner was the step backwards imo. terrible idea.

Can't put my finger on why but I prefer the notch on the 6 over the 6T. Outside of the bigger battery it seems like getting a cheap 6 might be a better deal than going for the new one, camera is the same and headphones jack is still there. I was looking forward to move from 3T to 6T but I'm not so sure anymore.

agree weirdly. the new notch seems to highlight the camera/sensors more...

The FPS scanner is disastrous in the sense that OP said it would be much improved from previous generations and would be used in conjunction with face unlock to make it faster. That's not the case and maybe a future firmware update may improve things but for now as it stands it's quite poorly implemented and is a step backwards.

You only have to look at some YouTube videos and it has quite a significant fail rate.

It's down to personal preference but some prefer the fps scanner to be at the front and some at the back. I rather have a fingerprint scanner that just works.

The OP6T is a good phone but if you already own the OP6 it's not worth the side grade IMO unless you have to have the latest tech and have oodles of cash to spend.

Let's not forget it's an update to the 6, not a completely new model, and as for prices - I paid £439 for my 128GB 3T in November 2016, so the equivalent 128GB model is £529, £90 more isn't bad at all in my eyes.

Watching the linus review and he's unlocking the phone with the fingerprint sensor without waking the screen first.

Looks great. Will be ordering the 256GB. Hoping some of the retailers have a deal including accessories. Any ideas for a case?

Grab a cheap OP6, why would you go for the 6T unless your desperate for a front fps? The thing which would have swayed me is a camera upgrade, nothing else.
There is no way whatsoever I would buy a phone with a fps on the back. Currently got S7E so that would be way to weird. I'll stick to front. And rather 6T than 6 for sure, a lot more my type of phone.

I'm so torn right now. Been wanting to upgrade my OPO (yes, ONE!) for a couple of years now but idiot manufacturers keep making phones bigger and getting rid of the headphone jack  Can't believe OP have made the 6T even taller and heavier than the 6. Why? There's so much screen it's really not necessary to have such a big phone that you simply cannot use with one hand. Is it mental I'm tempted to spend £310 more to get the 128GB Pixel3 which is at least a sensible size? Still no headphone jack though...

Maybe I'll call the whole thing off and get a P20 Lite and get Nova on it etc.

End of the the day it depends what you want out your phone, if a camera is important then big bucks are involved, if you can settle for a mid range camera then there a lot cheaper options out there, whats wrong with the OP6? or if you want something cheap but powerful the Poco F1, can be had for £289 next day UK delivery, or Honor Play @ 279, Honor View 10 @ £329, Mate 10 Pro £365, there's some good options out there around the £300 mark.

Just get a Pixel 3 and stop whining :D:p

Fussy bugger!

I use the Mate 10 pro and it's more than usable in one hand (and I have small hands!), especially with Nova launcher so you can just swipe down anywhere on the screen to pull down your notifications shade, a week after having one of these in your pocket you wouldn't even think about, I'm only saying this as you are really limiting yourself just because of a few millimetres.

Yeah stuff like the swipe down from anywhere that nova and oxygen OS have make phone size largely irrelevant.

It's only 5mm taller than the 3T and yet has nearly an inch bigger screen.

I'll pass, you can pickup the Galaxy S9+ for £530 from Amazon and you get no notch and a headphone jack!

Who do OnePlus think they're competing with exactly?

Wow what the.

I swear these were nearly 1k to buy outright only a month ago, I deffo would have got a s9+ instead of my oneplus6 if I knew they were £540.

Were these always this price and I was blind or have they suddenly just crashed in value.

I dont think much of the standard s9 as it only has 4 gig of ram, but the s9 plus looks decent.

The thing with the oneplus phones, traditionally they were much cheaper for the high spec'd cpu and ram. Now their prices have creeped up and also oxygen OS on my oneplus6 is so feature bare. Couple of examples been you cannot even turn off the vibration and you cannot customise the quick toggles. Plus there is only about 1/3of quick toggles that samsung has. Now these s9+ are £550, the traditional reason to get a oneplus phone seems mute. I know samsung has also been feature cutting but they still have a lot more features and better camera.
