**** The Official OnePlus 6 Thread ****

Fussy bugger!
Well, kinda. But I talk to everyone I know IRL (lol haven't used that expression much) and even our IT Producurement guys agree that phones are too big nowadays. I just don't see how every single guy in the world is not hugely annoyed by a 6" phone sticking out of his jeans pocket

It's only 5mm taller than the 3T and yet has nearly an inch bigger screen.
Well, I've been annoyed about the size of phones since the OPO (which I've still got). If there was one single thing I'd want different it's the size. It's just cumbersome. No way around it.

Now these s9+ are £550, the traditional reason to get a oneplus phone seems mute
Personally I think the OP software is awesome. I'd choose that over Samsung any day. No way would I want Samsung bloat.

Is your OPO size OK? As the 6T is 5mm taller, so that shouldn't be a huge difference. If the OPO is still too big then I can't see phone sizes drastically reducing anytime soon. iPhone maybe?:o:p

And 100% agree on the software, OxygenOS is awesome, just the right amount of customisation on stock android. Even though samsung's software has improved recently I still prefer vanilla android.

Is your OPO size OK?
Heh no. When the OPO came out I just knew it was the best phone as that price point so jumped in. Although I love it (and 5 years later it's only just dying on me - which says a lot!) it's size has always bothered me. I always wanted to get something smaller :(

EDIT: I'm actually in the US from Thurs until next Thurs. Could I buy a US model?

How come folks are saying the FPS is slow? From the videos I've seen it looks pretty fast in use? Though I'm just 100% clear if it's usage fully unlocks the device outright or I have to wake it first and then use it.

Bit gutted about the lack of notification LED and the headphone port or I'd actually consider it over my S8+ (I just want Pie without having to wait an eternity).

It is slower than the capacitive scanners we're used to, but it's not slow by any means. 0.34 seconds, the OP6's fingerprint scanner was 0.2 seconds - both according to OnePlus.

As for unlocking, you have to have the ambient display on (or the full display), that's the time and date only along with the fingerprint light area, no other pixels illuminated, like this:

You activate this by either picking the phone up, or single tapping the screen. Both are toggleable in the menus.

No wireless charging (yet...) as it's too slow.

Speaking to Ubergizmo Lau confirmed that the mechanics of wireless charging are quite simple, but because the company holds itself to such high standards the feeling is that wireless charging isn't ready for inclusion.

"The technology for wireless charging is not terribly complex. We could implement it but we haven’t wanted to because it’s been too slow. So we haven’t seen it being up to the level that we want in driving value for the users and their device experience"

But he noted that there's some potential in the future, thanks to some work being done by Qualcomm.

"But potentially – and I’m not totally sure on all the details – Qualcomm might have a solution in the works that would deliver the speed that we want without the added heat and the other drawbacks that have been faced in looking at the technology.”

Too slow? Have they not seen what Samsung have been doing for a few years now with 10W+ wireless charging? And now other Chinese manufacturers also jumping onboard the fast wireless charging wagon?

Ah cheers. Not sure I like the sound of an Always On display. I've always switched mine off on previous devices as I noticed battery life being impacted somewhat.

Well, considering OnePlus's tagline is 'unlock the speed' and even the 10w wireless charging is much slower than fast charge (1hr 30m Vs 2hr 45m) then I'd say it's a good enough reason.

It's not an always on display. It's similar to the current OnePlus ambient display, it only lights up (the few pixels needed) when you pick up the phone. And of course you can such it off.

It not always on - just raise to wake.

Yep 10W is far too slow when your used to dash charge speeds. And while were here, Samsung's current wired fast charge should be classed as 'old ass' fast charge as by current standards it ain't great.
