*** The Official OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 Thread ***

All this talk of ML and I've just rolled back to SL. Does everything I need, Lion overcomplicated things and broke things in my experience. Won't be ML-ing.

The problem with rolling back to SL is that it's now, as far as we can tell, regarded as obsolete by Apple. Safari 6.0 is available for ML and Lion and fixed a massive list of security vulnerabilities, but it's not available for Snow Leopard.

It's definitely something to take into consideration if you plan to run an old operating system.

Anyone know how to change your own picture in iMessage... I put an eagle when I first installed mountain lion and I can't seem to get rid of it! I have changed by account picture and contact pictures etc... but it just won't change :(

Decided to stick ML on my 2009 iMac. Getting the error about it being unable to download components. Google around, have to jump through a **** ton of hoops just to get a working installer. Installing Gentoo is less work.

Always amazes me how so many people have problems on each and every OS release. I haven't had any major problems since my first Mac that came with Snow Leopard.

My 2010 MBP installed and has been fine. I can't fathom what they've left out of the ML installer that it wouldn't work on a 2009 iMac. Connecting to my network from the utilities section and running through re-install won't even download the required components, I mean, I can access the OCUK forums from there.

I solved my slow sleep issue by disabling hibernate mode. I did that in Lion before but didn't realise it made such a big difference.

Honestly can't wait until the updated version of pages comes out as the new icloud integration on the current 09 version is immense. I'm a backup freak so this is perfect for me. If only microsoft could do the same thing with skydrive...

I just re-downloaded the ML installer and opened it up to have a look around and it contains the packages folder and all the packages you're told to have for a custom DVD/USB install disc. The guide I'm looking at tells you to remove the symlink for packages from one folder and create a new folder with the same name as the symlink and drop in all the packages that already exist in the packages folder the symlink links to.

I think I'll just do a fresh SL install App store install ML.

What is it you can do with Pages + iCloud that you cant do with Word + SkyDrive?

I cloud is built directly into pages now. You create documents either on your mac or iCloud and they are automatically saved to icloud for backups. Last time I checked, word didn't have any where near that level of integration.

WOW!

Upgraded to the previous version of OS X a while ago and was completely underwhelmed - it was buggy, slow and just very cranky.

Just upgraded tonight and even on a 2yr old Macbook this iteration flies - not missed a beat and is very responsive...

well chuffed with it.

Not long finished installing Mountain Lion on a new SSD, really liking the performance so far. Just a shame I'm suffering from serious battery drain issues at the moment, hopefully, as this seems quite a wide spread issue, Apple will get it sorted soon!

Hopefully I can get TRIM working as well, as it doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

Anyone have a problem adding SMB shares to the sidebar? I connect to an SMB share hosted in my windows machine and it was fine with Lion, and it still connects and is stil accessible on Mountain Lion, just whenever I try to add it to the sidebar under 'devices' like it used to be, it just flickers for a fraction for a second and disappears.
