The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

So further to my issue of the screen blanking on and off after the monitor has been in standby for a few hours it seems swapping the cable onto different connector on my GPU and installing the monitor drivers appears to have cured the issue. No more blinking when resuming after a few hours in standby for the past few days.

I didn't even know there were any drivers for it - I might look into this as my monitor flickers black on resuming from standby too which I just accepted as normal.

Just an update, I got a lightpack (just google it) that creates an ambient light around the monitor reflecting what's on the edges of the screen. Makes movies nicer and gaming strangely more atmospheric. Had it for a few months but would recommend to anyone wanting to treat themselves and add a bit more light to their rooms. It can also be set to specific colours etc.

The size of this monitor makes it easy to fit, mine is wall mounted on a slim mount and I haven't had any issues :)

For that width I's say 1646 high for a true 21:9, but 3840x1600 is close enough unless there's some requirement for it to be exact.

Yeah just found a site that does calculations: http://andrew.hedges.name/experiments/aspect_ratio/

Looks like 3840x1646 for exact 21:9

Interestingly the 3440x1440 res on these 34" ultrawide screens is closer to 21.5:9 so blowing it up to this screen would mean 3840x1607

Regarding the blackouts: Bought a "Cable Matters" Mini DP to DP cable for testing cause it was suggested somewhere in the web. Result: Does NOT fix the "blackouts" or reverting to 30 Hz issues. However I figured that it only happens with my MSI GS70 (765M). An NVidia GTX660 works fine with the screen. So I guess it is either the 765M chipset or the combination of this machine and screen which results in these issues. Bad because neither Philips or MSI or NVidia will do something about this ;|

Hello all. I just purchased this monitor from Best Buy, and found a single white dead/stuck pixel near the top right corner. I've seen a few people posting about having a number of dead pixels, so I'm thinking I may just need to be happy with only having one. I am debating, however, whether I should take it back or not, since I can't really see it from my sitting position, but I can see it when I stand up and look directly at it with a dark background... Now that I know it's there, my mind is fixed on it... :/

For those interested in desk mounts to replace the stand, I bought the Ergotron LX. This arm works great for this monitor. It looks slick, holds the weight well, and allows me to drop the height of the monitor down to where the Philips logo at the bottom is basically touching the desk. Lots of flexibility and it seems solid as a rock.

Starting to get a little put off by the image retention issue that is apparent in certain situations in games and on the desktop.
Mostly noticeable with dark objects moving in any direction against a lighter background.

^^ I haven't noticed that, had the monitor around 10 months. I won't dig into it just in case I can't then unsee it lol

Its the only thing making me dislike this monitor. If there was a 40" alternative to the Philips I may well have ditched it already but at the moment I'm trying to live with it.

For anyone who wants to try something go on the THREE homepage and focus on the 4 colour circles as you scroll quickly up and down. Should be enough to show what I mean. The Text streaking when you scroll is bloody annoying too at times.

Update - Smartimage is now set to off and this has improved things massively. No more text blur, streaking when scrolling. Still slight image retention but overall this has made things a lot better.

Just got one of these and my god is it massive, the 27' it replaced is tiny in comparison but you quickly adapt to the size. I was thinking of getting a 34' UW but after seeing a friends decided on this instead.

It's true, once you go 40' you can't go back to anything smaller.

^-- Like :D

I'm still trying to justify a 2nd. I also need work to get one, I got mine delivered there and used it for a few days before brining it home, it was the only time I've been able to view the top level of my design in a readable fashion!

I've had this monitor since they were first released, and it's a great piece of kit. I'm wondering though, has anyone gone from one of these to a 34" superwide, Gsync one? (X34 or the new ROG).

I'm finding I'm becoming more and more sensitive to refresh rate, such that it can make me nauseous. Pushing 4k with SLI 970s is still a tough ask, and although you can drop to 1440p, the resolution drop is really obvious as the monitor is on my desk (literally 2' away).

I also have the 60hz - 30hz problem occasionally, and the good old sync issue when coming out of standby...which is a bit annoying.

Yes, I went 40in to 27" Swift then my current X34. As you can imagine it's a balance in between the 2 and not TOO much of a drop size wise but the increased refresh+gsync is fantastic for gaming I must admit.

Only time I'd change now is for a 39/40in UK with a higher res and DP 1.3 for increased refresh rate too ;)

This gives you an idea on the size difference;

http://www.displaywars.com/40-inch-16x9-vs-34-inch-21x9

A fair bit of difference BUT the X34 has a nicely adjustable stand so you can position it to be directly in your line of sight

Its very difficult to go smaller than this 40" monitor now. It pretty much seems to be the perfect screen size for me without being OTT. I still use my 28" 4k next to this as a second monitor. I would use the asus in portrait but TN gives shocking results.

Another plus just realised also with the Philips is the USB 3's are sorted for anyone who has ordered the oculus rift. ;)

I'm not sure - been running my 40" in 3440 x 1440 for the last couple of days and I like it just fine.

Might be selling my Philips if anyone is interested!
