The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

Just bought 2 of those for a dual display setting.

For those that were wondering, works perfectly with a Mac PRO (late 2013) at full resolution 60Hz (after display port 1.2 is enabled in screen settings).

Anyone else finding the TFT Central settings a bit dull? I've got used to 100 brightness which doesn't help, but the picture now doesn't have any "pop" to it.

Agreed. I quite like how vibrant it is at high brightness, but am sure it won't be good for me.

Currently got it down to 50, as down near 34 I just find it not as nice for reading.

the lag wont be listed in the specs. the 8ms figure in the spec is for response time. I expect the Catleap has around 1 frame of lag too, most 27" models with scalers do

Hi Baddass, just wondering if your excellent site had any profiles saved for the HP L3065 monitor (old I know!)

Thanks!

I can only go by eye using the lagom.nl test for "calibration", but not matter how much I fiddle, I find the default settings just right for me.

So I tend to stick with economy, with brightness on 50 and colour on temp 6500K for night time, and "off" with 100% brightness and 6500K colour temp for daytime - I do have a window right behind screen so the brightness is needed for day time.

I have noticed a small issue with screen, which I can actually live with, but don't want to point it out to others - ignorance is bliss and all that - but would like to know if it is particular to mine or a general thing...

i just spoted sort of what look like dead pixels ( but actually more like dust as when i move my head looking different angle the dusts showing like its on top pixels layer ) . 2 of them on top area but i am trying to live with it as i don't want to return.

Do you happen to see it on white/bright content?

Not seen that on mine.

One issue I am seeing though: occasionally, when screen resumes from standby, it goes a bit mental and takes several attempts to display an image, flicking on and off a few times in the process. Sometimes this will leave me with a 30Hz display until I either reboot or switch to display port 1.1 then back to 1.2

Other than that, no other problems, the screen really is stunning.

Yeah, my issues with the screen are minor - thankfully, as I just don't want to be dealing with finding a screen any more.

I'm about 80% happy with it. (which for me is good going).

About the issue I noticed, I will probably bring it up with Philips some time, see what they say, but am I no rush.

Hopefully I don't run into any other more drastic problems.

that black depth

thats almost plasma low.. how could you ever go to IPS from this given how dark many computer games and movies are ?

The PPi is obviously about the same as 1440p 27" but does 4k still seem impressive? you are after all getting more pixels not just more PPi

Yeah, the blacks and contrast are immense on this.

Having used both 2560x1440 and 3440x1440 monitors, I can say that the PPI being only slightly higher on this does make a difference still. But mainly because I have this further from me than I had those screens, due to the size.

The size and pixel pitch is just right for me, as I didn't want to deal with scaling issues. Any higher ppi and scaling would be necessary.

Now I can hold tight til we have a 5120x2160 (or whatever the correct number is for 21;9) 39 inch with gsync/freesync, 120hz, curved and preferably va.

Hopefully they make that anyway... Otherwise I would happily settle for another 40 inch 16:9 with th rest of those specs, as it still allows for a massive 21:9 screen with custom resolutions.

its so tempting..

Its always bad getting a 16:9 and being aware of its limited height but with this 39.5" Its more of a TV !

i need more pics really, sort of good ones that demonstrate the clarity. In a nutshell forgetting size would you say 4k is better @ 40" than a 1080p @ 24" in terms of that pin sharpness ?

the best image so far i have seen is this one..

looking at that, with my duff old eyes i think any more PPI and im really going to struggle. 40" looks perfect .. i also have a massive desk.

Im unfamiliar how the pwm works - its rated at 240 but does this only come into play when you dim the screen? or does it affect you with normal usage?

I can be prone to headaches would this be something to worry about?

Will let you know over the next coupl weeks. I suffer from migraine fairly often, and have been having that sort of pre-migraine feeling a few times the last week, but migraine for me is also triggered by high stress and lack of sleep, both of which I have been subjected to a lot lately...

Haven't had full blown migraine yet though.

Spent a fair few hours on it yesterday and felt fine, though most of that was during day with brightness at 100.

the PWM cycling only kicks in if you lower the brightness control below 100, which i expect most people will need to as it's very bright at 100%. From there, the backlight is rapidly switched on and off at 240Hz which is what can lead to eye strain and headaches for some people

Badass, as you are around again now :D

Was wondering if you found this - enabling sRGB mode seems to crush blacks a bit, and not just in smart uniformity mode.

I don't have actual hardware for calibration, but use the lagom.nl site as it's the best I got.

Also, if you use something to set a full screen colour (green shows it), such as dead pixel tester and then open the monitors menu, do you see a faint brightness shift in line with the side of the monitor menu?

It would be fairly faint and extend probably up to the top of the monitor.

Hi any idea what the Lag is on these in old terms? I have iiyama E2710HDSD which reports 24ms (PC PRO) lag, Digital versus reports 2-5ms. The review has a different way of calculating and report 24ms?

So question is really will the lag be the same?
