The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

I've been having this annoying problem where the monitor drops to 30hz, when I look in display settings it's refresh rates have changed from 30hz or 60hz to 29hz or 30hz. Anyone else getting that issue? Could it be the display port cable?

I had it one day, but if I remember correctly, I was changing drivers...

Really can't remember clearly, it was just one day specifically, and not had it again since (fingers crossed).

I think it was mostly after rebooting, windows would be in 30hz mode, and only a restart cured it.

Am sure changing drivers fixed it, but I would be wrong.

Interesting, that happened to me once when it defaulted back to 30Hz and It wouldnt let me change it back to 60Hz in windows ( it was 60hz in the monitor osd ) . I switched the monitor off and on again and it redected it at 60hz. ( I leave my monitor on since I bought it and just let it go into sleep mode )

Was thinking of running this monitor from two 970gtx in SLI. Is this enough to handle this monitor's resolution?

That's what I am driving mine with currently.

Would I like more performance? Yeah.

Is it bad? No, not really.

Can't quite manage ultra on Dragon Age Inquisition, but can manage a lot of high settings.

Elite Dangerous I think I have maxed.

BF4 runs just fine, and I think that mostly on ultra settings.

Alien Isolation can be maxed.

But I do seem to notice tearing more lately - the main culprit of this being DA:I. It's not too bad if I limit fps to around 45. I would just enable v-sync with triple buffering, but get fair bit of stuttering...

I don't have a lot fo faith in these current nvidia drivers, but am not rolling back to the .80's which I think are better. Mainly because I just don't want to rely on hack to get correct colour range on screen.

Hey eyetrip, many thanks for the in depth reply. Am teetering on the edge of going for two 980s but this is obviously a significant outlay...! Am reassured by your numbers provided above. So your 970s are water cooled? What are they running at?

They are only running 1450 and plus 350 memory.

Honestly, I would just get 970's. The current maxwell cards are not ideal for 4k in my opinion.

Sure they can do a decent job now, but with just two settings already take a hit and before long I think memory will hold them back even more.

I don't see the cards in my system as a long term thing. I may get a third if I can find one cheap second hand and hopefully hold out for next year, but It depends what the cards coming out are like.

The 980ti and Titan 2 will likely be announced soon, I'll be tempted by the Titan 2 if they have proper HDMI 2.0/2.1 and DP1.3 (ideally two DP connectors) support to future proof them.

I have 2x 980s (reference cards) and Elite runs just fine with everything at max. I run Dragon Age:Inq pretty much maxed out too.

My current monitor is an LG true 4K monitor (ie 4096x2160 rather than 3840x2160) so I'd hope for a 7% faster framerate with the Phillips

The good thing with 4K is that largely you can turn off any antialiasing options to help boost framerate.

I'm using an i7-5930K with an X99 mobo.

As it's a work PC, I don't overclock.

Is this monitor still the only realistic 4K solution? I don't think I could cope with a 32" or smaller. At this price range, I can't seem to find anything else in the monitor or TV range.
Wish they had put a curve in it though, would solve most of the viewing angle issues...

I also run SLI 970s (overclocked, 125 core, 400 memory), and they work great with this monitor. Some games need the settings dialled back a bit, but the resolution more than makes up for it.

Also, if you have any games which don't scale well in SLI, simply select 1440p - which still looks good on this monitor :)

For all those waiting, hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Despite struggling with the game, Elite Dangerous is beautiful on this in either 21:9 or 16:9 (nice because its BIGGER!!!) with a flight stick, and sitting relatively close (for the size). It's like you are there in space :D

Now if only I could get used to all the actual gameplay aspects of the game!
