*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

My point was mainly to do with continuing with your PS+ sub and having the games that you'd aquired digitally being available to you via Gaikai. Probably wishful thinking on my part but you never know. :)

PS+ will continue over imo I dont know how they will do it as the PS4 will have no "old" games, they may just give PSN games away for free until "full" games are older.

imo they would be mad not to include PS+ as it is one of the best features of the PS3.

Gaikai sounds interesting, I'd think Sony have something planned for the sevices, but streaming games to extend the life of the PS4? Interesting idea, but Sony might be looking at the services to provide access to PS3 games for a nominal fee, gain access to hundreds of existing PS3 games on your PS4 for £9.99 a month.. I can see it coming, I really can.

I think I can safely write off my PSN collection once my PS3 slim goes, i'll keep on to it for sometime after I get a PS4, however I can not see my PSN install of Zen Pinball or Wipeout HD working native on PS4, but I can see me having to pay for another service on top of PSN to access stuff like Zen Pinball sadly.

I'll stake my electric toothbrush that this will be the last generation of dedicated hardware. It'll all be cloud computing with thin clients next gen.

With the Vita remote play, how does anyone expect this to work correctly?

1) remote play on the psp was DOG SLOW, so the experience was never smooth and enjoyable.

2) the vita doesn't have the same controls as the dual shock? I.e. missing l1 and r1, l3 and r3.

1) I've played some titles with both crossplay and remote play on the Vita, and it works well enough for what you'd expect.

2) The shoulder and trigger buttons are replaced by the back or front touchscreen corners, you can pick which ones correspond to which button.

no chance imo, broadband speeds are not fast enough for normal use for a lot of people never mind a cloud based console.

in fact i reckon if such a company did go down that route solely, they would fail so badly they may never recover from it and cease to exist within a generation or two after.

cloud services need much, much better broadband networks around the country, fibre is only available through 1 provider in my area for instance.

The same it works on ps3 now. The rear touchpad is used for L2/R2. It's not completely lag free but it's pretty good and playable have only tried GoW).

Outside of the PS brand what else could Gaikai be used for? Could they really consider 'platformless' gaming post-PS4?

I don't remember the exact wording at the PS4 reveal event but it seemed to me that that is what they were hinting at with us being able to access back catalogues via Gaikai. If they can achieve something usable now then why not PS4 games in 5-10 years? What bandwidth speeds we'll need to get there I have no clue.

Well I was thinking more 'PS5' games on a PS4 so to speak :D - its all about the quality of your internet connection and my, in this console generation its improved quite a bit, all we need is a better quality connection rather than outright bandwidth...

Perhaps MSs vague proposal of a local media box that does cloud games might just happen

Its great Gaikais here for BC, but its a massive investment on that ole basis alone, especially as Sony pretty much ditched BC this generation and MS have followed suit for the next - not hard to see what the long-term idea is, I just wanna talk about the mid-term, could be rather exciting :)

Yeah that's kind of what I meant by 5-10 years (PS5). Sorry poorly worded on my part.

If I think 10 years ago I was just moving from dual band ISDN at 128k to 0.5MB broadband. 10 years later I'm at 20MB (yes, I moved :p). What speeds are BT Infinity getting atm? 70MB+?

Well yeah I guess.

you're right, 10 years ago I was moving from 56K to 512 ADSL, then 5 years ago I moved to BE that was up to 20MB and now I've just signed with Virgin for 60MB so, in another 10 years could we see fixed lines of 120MB + ??

Quite possible to cloud game over that type of link..

As I said its not bandwidth thats the worry, more ping/latency when it comes to cloud gaming - think bandwidth demands will take care of themselves in the years to come...

Big difference between a standalone handheld and a controller though :)

Which is my point; the controller comes with every Wii U yet not every game is designed to take advantage of everything it can do. The Vita is just decoding a video stream from the PS4 just as the Wii U controller does from the console.

I can't access the full article due to being at work, but from reading the title alone surely it just means adding support for remote play/cross play is mandatory for all games? I imagine that may create more work for devs, but it would be nice to have more games support the features than the current small list of compatible titles.

The implication being that you would need to buy a Vita to play a lot of PS4 titles?

I don't think they mean owning a Vita is mandatory to play PS4 titles, it's just making all games capable of being played with remote play or cross play like PS All-stars, Ratchet and Clank Q-Force, WipEout HD, etc.
